Hello out there. I was seeing if anyone can tell me what is a good high back booster to get my son. He is two years old and he is really big for his age. he out grew his convertible seat. He hangs of out of it and the straps are way to tight and I can not adjust them anymore. He hates this seat really really bad. He is so uncomfortable and hates to take rides anywhere. Please help me.

What can I do next?

Try the Britax Marathon. He is way too young to be put in just a booster. He needs to be in a car seat until at least age 4. This seat is larger than some so it accomodates larger kids (up to 80#'s I believe. It's been a while since we purchased ours.) It has a 5 point harness and the straps adjust easily and has different height adjustments. This seat is a little larger than some so if you have a small car go somewhere where you can try it before you buy it. Otherwise I can not say enough good things about it. We love ours.

Even though he is big for his age he isn't ready for a BPB. He still needs to be in a 5 point harness. I recommend getting a Britax Regent. It will fit a child up to 80 pounds and 53". It is a bit pricy, but the safety IMO is worth it. And the Britax seats are super comfy- you can see them at Babies R Us.

We researched like crazy trying to find the largest seat with a 5 pt harness and it turned out to be the Britax Marathon I think they have a pricer version of the same thing with more padding too, it might be the decathalon. I tried sitting my son in other seats in the store that actually said they accomodated a taller child than the marathon but when I put him in the seat and measured to the top strap slot it just wasn't true. Height was our problem not wieght. When he outgrows the Marathon there is no where to go but a really pricy high end toddler seat by SAFEGAURD. It retails for $400. Hopefully he can just do a booster then.

Luckily I had bought the Marathon when my son was 6 months and too tall for the infant seat.

The Marathon is a convertible seat and a great investment if you know anyone with big kids transitioning from an infant seat. It will definately take them the farthest.

How big is he (height, weight)?

There are also a few options for you besides Britax (they are wonderful seats, but are definitely not you only option, and they can be pricey). While the Regent would undoubtedly last you the longest, some are unable to pay that much for a seat. Graco just came out with a new forward-facing seat called the Nautilus - it's sold at Wal-mart for $150. It's made to help those whose children outgrow smaller convertible seats. The Nautilus harnesses to 65 pounds, and then becomes a belt positioning highback booster for once they outgrow the harness. Your two year old is NOT ready for a booster, regardless of how much he weighs.

I'm not sure if the Nautilus is at all Wal-marts yet, but I know that they have it in stock at the Pittsburgh Mills Wal-mart.

Other higher-weight harnessing options are: the Britax Marathon, Boulevard, Decathlon and Regent; the Sunshine Kids Radian65 and Radian 80; and the Evenflo Triumph Advance.

If you need any help picking a seat or installing it, please email me or message me - I'm a Certified Child Passenger Safety technician and can help you out if you need it.

Britax husky is a 5 point harness carseat that goes to 80 pounds. It is very comfortable and is great with safety ratings.... a bit pricy but well worth it! Britax also makes one that goes to 65 pounds.I have the husky for my kids. After my first son had a constant bruise on his back which we eventually figured out was from his carseat I went on a search for the most comfortable, and safe seat for him. I LOVE Britax seats. A plus is that the covers are very easy to get off and clean. When shoppping for one run yout hand firmly against the back and you will see exactly WHY some kids HATE their carseat! YOu will be amazed how the plastic mold is and how little padding a lot of the seats have.

Check out Britax, they generally have the safest seats and I know they carry boosters. You can sometimes get them on ebay for less. I think the minimum safe weight for boosters is 40lbs - check the manufacturers website to be sure.

I would recommend the Britax either Husky or Big Boy, I can not remember what they are calling it now adays. It is a 5 point harness system for bigger children that stil need to be in a 5 point harness until they are 4. The only problem with this car seat is that it is huge and in some cars it just does not fit. I tried it in my Volvo XC-70 and it just would not sit right or get tight enough fit for my liking. But, I would try it. Sometimes Babies R Us carries them in the store, otherwise you may have to order them online. The are pretty expensive too, but who can put a price on child safety. Good Luck!

When you decide what high back booster seat to get be certain to get one with a 5-point harness system, the car seatbelts can't be trusted anymore. I recently saw a really sad story about a little boy riding in a booster seat whose car seatbelt malfunctioned during a crash and he was killed in the accident. The family has started a foundation pushing folks to buy only 5-point harness booster seats and they are donating them to needy families. They have them now that go up to 80lbs. I'm certainly not rich but I can tell you that my child's safety is priceless and until he is over 80lbs, he will be in a 5-point restraint system.

Here is the link to the story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ

Good luck!

My son is almost 3 and is already 36 lbs and is over 3 feet tall. We use a Cosco seat that is good up to 100 lbs. It has the 5-point harness system and long straps. I got it at Walmart (also saw it at Target) for under $100. I researched the seat online before I purchased it and didn't find any problems with it. It converts to a booster seat when the child is older. Good luck!
