Hi mommies,
My hubby and I are planning a week mini-vacation to Vegas. We will be taking our two
children. My boy is 7yrs. and my daughter is 4yrs. We have gone without them before but we just don't enjoy ourselves to the fullest because we get too worried about them. Are sitters are great, it's just us parents as worry worts I guess.
So, my question:
Anyone out there who goes often, have any helpful hints/suggestions as to what fun FAMILY activities to do with them? I know Circus Circus of course but any maybe not so known that we would miss since we aren't frequent visitors? We are going middle of March and staying 3 days during the week and the weekend. Also, of course money will be taken into consideration but any suggestions pricey and not are appreciated, we might swap one activity for another if we feel it to be more fun for the kiddos.

Check out the kids friendly Lowes Resort just outside of Vegas...awesome. Also the m&m factory. Last time I went I took my sitter with us which gave us the best of both worlds. Have fun.
We took our kids a couple years back and had a great time. So much to do, but yes, some can be pricey. Google free Las Vegas activites and Las Vegas Family activites and you will find lots of info. Another website to check out is roadsideattractions.com Lots of free, cheap and obscure places to visit for every city.
Here are things that we did on the cheap.
*Ethel M Chocolate factory tour-go during the week to see candy making in action. It's open on the weekend but only shows videos. They give out free samples.
*Hoover Dam-a 30 mintue drive from Vegas. We didn't take the tour but just looked around-pretty awesome to see.
*McCarren Airport-there is a strectch of road parallel to the runway with parking for airplane watching. We brought a picnic lunch and ate while watching take off and landings. My son remembers this the most. Sorry, I can't remember the name but I found it through googling vegas info.
*M&M world-a must stop. 4 floors of everything m&m and simulated factory. Be prepared to spend money but so worth it.
*Red Rock Canyon State park-this is on our list to do next time we go with the kids. The photos I've seen look amazing for hiking and picnicing.
*MGM Hotel Lions-a big exhibit of lions-free to see. they also had an amusement par at one time but don't know if they still do.
*Circus Circus has free circus acts, lots of arcade games and a amusement park in the adventure dome (pricey).
*Strip hotels-Mirage erupting volcano, Belagio water show and flower conservatory, Paris Eiffel tower, new York New York roller Coaster. I hear the pirate show at Treasure Island is a little on the adult side. Excaliber has dragons and Merlin and adinner tournament show. The venetian has the Gondolas.
*Mirage Hotel-Siegfried and Roy's Garden-white tigers, dolphins and other exotic animals (this is exspensive).
*Eating on the strip is crazy exspensive. Go off the strip into Henderson for local prices. Bring breakfast, lunch and snack items in the hotel room so you don't have to spend so much money.
Try to get a hotel with a heated pool for the winter. Flamingo has one and we stayed there with our kids and they loved swimming.
My hubby and I just went over Valentines and stayed at South Point. It is 5 miles before the main start of the strip and we loved it. It has a 72 lane bowling alley and movie theatre. The Orleans and Sam's Town also have bowling alleys.
Buffalo Bills at state line has some fun rides and arcade. Don't forget a photo in Baker in front of the world's largest thermometer! the McDonalds at Barstow Station in Barstow. Calico ghost town. These are good places to stop and stretch their legs along the way.
There is lots of road construciton going on along the 15 once in Nevada. I read in March and April parts of the 15 will be closed on Wednesdays for blasting so look into that before you go.

At new york new york hotel there is and ESPN Zone that has an really fun arcade with all interactive sports games. iTs a fun place to visit. Check and see what kinds of activities are at your hotel too. Most have great pools ans some recreation. The bellagio has the water show at night. Call them to check the time. There are also the shops at caesars that have shows with the statues and stars thats pretty neat. I think there is a lot of info on vegas.com that can tell you when all of the free or cheap shows are at all the hotels. Oh and I think the MGM has tigers. Have fun!
