Advice While Being Preggers

You know how people give you unsolicited advice when you're pregnant? What was the best advice that you got? And what was the worse? My worse one: don't exercise. Didn't listen, swam during the whole pregnancy (until 2 weeks before birth) and felt great. What about you?

What can I do next?

Best: I had lots of advice, but looking back this one stands out. I had a nice, black maternity dress passed down to me and I was thinking aloud where I should wear it. A friend said something along the lines of, "Have you husband take you out. Even if you feel like you can't afford it, you can't afford not to." We didn't go. Once baby came, we did't get many chances for dates.
Worst: I didn't like people telling me to go to the Dr. for my swollen ankles. I felt it was perfectly normal, also I'd already mentioned it to my Dr.

Best advise: Sleep now and after baby sleep when baby sleeps
Worst was: Get the Epidural it will be the worst pain ever. - I did not listen for me (not everyone feels like this sorry) It was nothing, I did it 3 times with absolutly no meds and all 3 were bigger than 8lbs9oz, no stiches, no tearing no nothing. If I could afford it I would keep having kids. I was made for it.

The best advise I can give others: LISTEN TO YOUR INSTINCTS!!!

I don't really remember people giving me bad pregnancy advice, it was after the baby was born that people try to give advice, in my opinion! The one that annoyed me was people saying to put rice in the bottle to get the baby to sleep. Not only should you not do that but, uh, hello, did you even ask me if I was using bottles? Can't put rice in a breast.

Worst thing was being told 1,000 stories of terrible child birth. Everyone wants to tell thier horror story. That's not a nice thing to put a 1st timer through! I went in with so much fear and especting the worst. I had 8 hours of contractions, my water had broken and I was dilated to an 8 before I even admitted I was in labor. I thought, no this can't be it, everyone says how I wont be able to walk or talk through the pain. BS! I wish just one person would've told me it feels like progressively stronger menstrual cramps and then like you need to take a giant Bowel Movement! That would've calmed my nerves so much.

The best advice I got was to let others who offer help :)
The worst advice I got was that I needed to put my 2 week old nursing baby on a stricter schedule so he would eat more/better at each sitting and I wouldn't have to nurse so many times during the day. That was from my MIL who didn't even nurse!! WTH?!

You're going to have a c-section?!?! You mean, your doctor won't let you try? (I had a planned c-section for my twins). Well, when you've pushed two 8 lb babies out your vagina, you can then give me advice for what I'm going to do with mine.

Best advice - "There is such a thing as mother's instincts. Listen to them and follow them." Everyone will have an opinion, don't get overwhelmed. Listen to your instincts and do what you feel is right.
Worst advice - "Your are spoiling her by feeding her on demand" - while breasfeeding my daughter.

Good advice: 1. swaddle! (google the 5 s's.) 2. use A & D ointment as a barrier so that you don't have to rub off baby's skin in attempt to get all the poo off :)
Bad advice: 1. get epidural (I ended up having c-section due to it--nobody told me that getting an epidural increases your chance of c-section by 30%) 2. use nipple shield (very bad idea--made breastfeeding extremely difficult for me) 3. quit breastfeeding my 6 month old when I got pregnant 2nd time (my doctor told me this but I followed my instincts and didn't listen--both my children were perfectly healthy :)
I can't believe somebody told you to not exercise! Hmmm...

I think I must have closed my ears to any input, because I don't remember getting any advice, good or bad! I read several books and articles, and just used my own judgment to decide which to believe and which to ignore. I ran cross-country until seven months, then switched to walking. It was the best thing I did for myself while pregnant. That, and napping when I felt like it!

..................No, I have to eat for 1 and 1/10.

I hate it when people freak out over the tiniest thing im doing like lifting my older children, laying on my back at times, drinking tea, going out in the heat. UGh

I know my body and ill take things in moderation. best advice ive gotten was from my doctor this time around...........continue watching what i eat and work out every day !
