For anyone that has gotten your tonsils out, when did you start eating solid and crunchy foods again? What did you start with? Age?

What can I do next?

I got my tonsils out in January , and I am 33. For the first 2-3 days after surgery I drank lot's of water and didn't have much of an appetite at all , after than I drank slim fast shakes for a day or so then moved onto toast and soft banana. By a week after the surgery I could eat pasta and bread. Soup is also good right after , something like cream of chicken or cream of celery.

My daughter didn't start eating crunchy things until the 2wk mark was up. Before that she ate mashed potatoes, chicken noodle soup, spaghetti O's, bread, pasta, eggs, pancakes. and of course popsicles!

I had mine out when i was 24. I actually had a really great recovery...I also had my septum straightened in the same surgery so i was dealing with both. You're going to want lots of food that is cool in the beginning. They don't recommend hot foods due to bleeding risks. Hence the ice cream idea you always hear about.

Gatorade, jello, pudding, etc

I went out and had pulled pork and mashed potatoes a few days after. I just asked for a second plate and spread everything out to cool down and ate it luke warm! LOL

Food with texture...prob about a week or week and a half id guess. You should be back to pretty normal within two weeks. Thats how long i got to be out of work.

Good luck! It isn't as bad as you think it will be!

I was in my 20's. You can start with soft food and gradually add more solid and/or crunchy food as your throat feels comfortable eating. I'd guess within a few days.

I got strep throat on top of the incisions and was unable to swallow even liquids for a couple of weeks. I started with mashed potatoes, soft cooked carrots, eggs, yogurt, applesauce.

Hi J. The best person to answer this is your doctor. Everyones case is different. Although I still have my tonsils. But get a professional opinion because you don't want to get an infection.

Mine was 48. (he's my hub ;) He had to do soft soups (room temp) and pretty much liquids for several days. I think it is all about the comfort level of the patient. I know with my husband...tempurature was just as important as softness...hot and cold both included.
