Does anyone have any advice on weaning a 1 year old? I've managed to cut the feeding when she's at daycare. She took really well to whole milk in the sippy cup there but she doesn't want to take it when we're at home. I tried to wean a home feeding to the sippy cup but she would only take it in a bottle (after much protest as she really wanted to nurse). Any ideas on how to wean to the sippy cup with Whole Milk? Maybe I should still use the bottle but I thought you weren't supposed to have the bottle after 1 year...?

What can I do next?

I have a question too... what's the big deal about giving a child who is older than 12 months a bottle? I can tell you from experience, the amount of liquids (formula, milk, water, whatever) will seriously drop off when you move her to a sippy cup. I'd like to know why doctors think that bottles are a bad thing. I understand they are concerned about leaving the baby in the crib with one, and tooth-rot, and all that, but REALLY! I swear, if you continue with the bottle your daughter's head will not explode, she will not cease to function, and she just may be better hydrated because of it. :)

We just went cold turkey with our son. On his first birthday I decided to put all of the bottles away and if he wanted milk he was going to have to use a sippy cup.

A lot of babies use the bottle as a comfort thing. I wouldn't worry about whether your daughter is using the bottle at one. Nobody is going to come and tell you you're a bad parents because of it...honest! :) Just keep working with her and eventually she'll be done with it. If you really want it gone, just take it away. She'll drink out of her cup when she's thirsty.

give me a break. i have 4 children and i nursed all of them. 25,21,7 and 4 years old. the dr.'s say to get them off at a year. well i did not. i waited until two. i made it ok when my child and i were ready. i allowed the bottle until my son was two. i never left the bottle in the crib, just until he went to sleep. my kids never had any cavity problems and they have perfect teeth. i would stop the nursing and put the whole milk in a bottle. (because of the spread in the years between my kids) dr.s will change that info again probably in 5-10 yrs.
one day chocolate was good for us then it is not and now it is again. whatever. good luck
