Advice on Sleeping/eating for 6 Mth Old

Hi - My 6 month old has recently not been eating or sleeping well. At 5 months she was eating and sleeping like a champ - during the day she would finish a 5-6 oz bottle and eat cereal during the day and cereal and a veg at night, taking a bottle right before bed. This was allowing her to sleep through the night. Then all of a sudden she wasn't keeping anything down. Dr said it was most likely due to the phlegm she was swallowing (she had a slight cough & congestion) that was making her tummy upset. That was going on for about a week. She is now keeping food down but her intake has decreased significantly and she is not eating the solid food as well. Whether she has the solid food or not doesn't matter but she's still not taking as much formula. My question is - would teething cause this? Both my husband and I were late teethers but she constantly has her hands in her mouth and is always chewing on something. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced anything similar with eating and sleeping habits due to teething. Otherwise she is a happy baby.

What can I do next?

Hi-
All babies and kids have their bad weeks of not eating or sleeping well, sometimes we do not know why. As long as she is active, and does not appear sick, then don't stress too much. Babies can't talk, so we look at "how are they behaving?" Teething can sometimes cause them to be restless and irrate. If she doesn't want to eat, then don't force her. A baby will never go hungry or starve to death. If she is sleepy, she will sleep eventually.
Don't stress...look at the big picture and as long as she is happy, then this soon shall pass too.

I had flash backs reading your post. My now 3 year old daughter did a similar thing when she was about 4 months. Believe it or not and to this day she almost stops eating when she has a growth spurt. This is the opposit of what normal children do and even my ped said she had never seen it before.

Normally she is a good eater and alwasy has been except occassionaly she would just stop eating and just pick at things for about a week or 2, but then she went back to normal. Then I would realize her clothes didn't fit anymore. I finally caught onto the schedule when she was about 9 months and now when she doesn't eat sure enough she has a growth spurt.

The doctor and I just watched her carefully to make sure she didn't lose too much weight and that she started eating again. I would just give it some time and watch her carefully.

Yes, she is teething. This can start at 4 mo.--long before you see any teeth. For pain relief, you will need to try the many, many options available to see what works for your daughter.

I have heard babies decrease food amounts while teething. But this process can take awhile. My son will gum everything, drool, and be cranky weeks before the tooth actually erupts. I would monitor the formula intake and if it doesn't get better speak to the doctor. You don't want weight loss. Teething is miserable for baby and mommy!!
