Hi,
I am looking for a Preschool program for my daughter for Fall of 2008. I know this is a year away, but I know it is better to start early. Anyway, my daughter will be 4 yrs. old. I would like to find a school that has a small ratio of kids per teachers. I need the school to be close to where I live or near my job. I live in the East Orlando area (UCF/Oviedo) and I work downtown. Any suggestions will be appreciated. R.

What can I do next?

Hi R.,

I know this school isn't in your area, but is close to downtown, so might be on your route. I have 2 children (1st and 4th grade this year) going to it this year. They both started in Kindergarten. It's name is Beeman Park Prep, and it's been around for years. The owner/principal is Jeanne Smith. (the name comes from a little park nearby). The teachers use a modified Montessori method. Along with the usual subjects, Spanish, computer lab, and dance (and for the older kids, jazz tap) are offered/included. Lunch is not provided, so kids bring their lunch. If it needs to be heated up, they have a microwave. No backpacks (don't need them) and they do require uniforms. I like that I always know what my kids are doing in school. Hours are 7:30am to 6pm so you can pick up once the achedmic day is over.

Take care!
M.

Hi R.,
I'm not familiar with any schools on the east side, but I have heard very good things about the Windows School which is downtown.

I know both parents the the admissions at Lake Highland Prep School that highly recommend it....

The VPK(Voluntary Pre-K) program is offered in various centers, and schools(public, and private). I don't know of specific schools, but it is free from the florida dept. of education, from 9-12, and most kids stay until 1:30, or beyond.
Hopefully you can find one in your area. Look on the FDOE website.

Good Morning R.,

My oldest daughter who is now 9 years old use to attend Downey Christian Preschool across from Downey Park on E Colonial Drive. This was a wonderful school, she loved being there learning, reading by the age of 3 1/2 - 4 yrs old and interacting with the other kids. I believe that now they accept infants as well. Back then I belive the weekly rate was about $90 per week. Good Luck with any choice you make.

Take Care,

J.

R.,

I can tell you were not to go because of personal experience. Do not go to Kindercare at University and Goldenrod or Children's Garden at University and Dean. My daughter after 1 very bad experience started at Good Shepherd at age 2. It is a Catholic School and now accepts children as young as 6 months.
