I have a beautiful 7 week old baby boy. He is breast fed and latley he has had the worst gas! It's so loud you casn hear it across the room! When I hold him you can feel his little tummy rumble and just know he's uncomfortable! Sometimes it keeps him up at night! The gas has no smell and he is still pooping normally. I haven't changed my diet in any way so I can't imagine what could be causing it! Could it be a allergic reaction? I can't stand to see him so uncomfortable, and it causes him to not want to eat as much! Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Mention it to your doctor. My daughter had problems with gassiness and was uncomfortable when she ate and it turned out that she had acid reflux. They put her on Zantac and that helped A LOT! For now, have you tried the Mylicon Gas drops?

Congratulation on your new baby! The moms here always have good advice so here's more to consider. Mylacon always worked well for my kids. Secondly, if it's not your diet within breast feeding then make sure you baby is getting a good latch onto your breast and not taking in extra air when sucking. Good Luck!

Hi S.,

Congrats on your baby!
My son was very gassy when he was younger as well.. We found out that he had acid reflux and pretty bad. They initially had him on Zantac; it didn't work, then put him on Pepcid; still wasn't 100% working. Finally, he went onto Pepcid and Prevacid at the same time and that solved the problem (thank gosh he's almost 8 months and off both of them).. There tummies are still very immature at that age and until it matures he might need some medicine.( Just hopefully not for a long period of time).. My pediatrician sent me to a gastroenterologist for my son.
Also, always after he ate I would do bicycles on his legs, it relieves the pressure/bloating in his belly.... And make sure to burp quite often.
Good luck :0)

Your 7week old sounds like my four month old .. lol I am totally not a believer of the mylocon drops and wish they would pull them from the shelves. If you want to try something that is garunteed to work go to you local health food store and try GRIPE WATER , or PRIMADOPHILUS FOR CHILDREN, ask the local merchant there and they can assist you. Works like a charm !!

Mylicon. or generic gas relief drops. You can find them with the infant medicine. Just be sure to check with your pediatrician before giving him any type of medicine! It worked wonders for me. Also, you may think you are burping to hard, but trust me, don't just pat really lightly- don't hurt him of course, but just remember not to barely tap his back. Also, sometimes lying him across your lap on his belly helps- I also found rubbing my daughter's back in circles in between pats helped.
