Absolutely loved my born free glass bottles - worked great and have the coolest system so no gassy baby :)
Hello all you Mom's out there! I'm due with my second baby in mid-May and I want to get new bottles since it's been more than 6 years since my first child. Since then there is all the news about plastics which contain harmful toxins etc. I was actually thinking about getting the glass bottles, but there are so many kinds. If you have an experience with these or any other bottles, I'd love to know before I go buy any.
Thanks!

I too have a 6 yr old boy, and now a 2 month old girl, wow has a lot changed in just those few years. I decided to use glass for my daughter, we use Dr Brown glass bottles. They can be a pain to clean b/c of the various parts to the them. But when placed in a bowl of hot tap water to warm the milk it only takes a few minutes to heat up, half the time of the plastic bottles. This makes it so much easier when the baby decides she wants to eat right then. The glass bottles are heavier than the plastic, but I don't even notice the difference anymore. I also breastfeed and bottle fed my daughter and she had no problem with the transition of either.
I used the Avent bottles and my son loved them!! :)
Born Free are good, as are Avent. Just don't buy into the hype of Dr. Browns - they're a PITA to clean, and the nipples are really tiny - they don't promote a good latch. Especially if you're planning on breastfeeding too.
I went through many until I found Airvent. Yes it is plastic but wonderful for gas problems. I had a preemie and it help alot with that. Good Luck
LOVED the Playtex Drop-In bottles. BPA free. A little more expensive because you have to buy the liners, but Target liners worked fine in them to save some money -- until we needed the 10-oz drop-ins, then Playtex were the only ones to buy. That may have changed now, but either way you can stock up when they're on sale. The best part for us? No need to sterilize the bottles when our twins were very young (we still sterilized the nipples and tops) and very few parts so easy clean up!
I love my Born Free bottles- both glass and plastic. One thing to consider before buying glass- some daycares wont accept them. Just a thought to consider if you are going that route.
Hi T., I like the Born Free plastic bottles. I had Avent with my son a few yrs ago, but I threw them away because of BPA. No problems with Born Free, easy to clean!
Good luck.
Avent bottles are the best. I have some born free bottles, but they are too expensive. Avent hits my pocketbook just right!
Love the Playtex drop-ins as well. Just like other moms have said on here. You might still be able to get a free one sent to you from playtex if you google free playtex bottle. It's a promotional thing to get the new BPA Free bottles out there to everyone.
We started with Dr. Brown and then switched to Born Free and were so happy we made that switch! They are easier to clean, and just wonderful. We use plastic, which is BPA Free.
I used the plastic Born Free with my second. I loved them. Dr. Brown's is also making a BPA free plastic now. The only problem with glass is that they are heavy and a pain to clean up if broken.
I had a hard time with this too and I personally decided against the glass since they are so heavy. I went with the Playtex dropins because they are BPA free and I love them. It is so nice to be able to throw the liner away when the bottle is done. Good luck.
I always used the disposable drop-ins kind. They cost a bit more, but save so much time and energy!
We started with evenflo's basic glass bottles with my second daughter but she was extremely gassy and they almost made it worse. We switched to the playex nurser system with the drop in liners. They worked great and really helped with the gas issue. The bottles, nipples, and liners are all BPA free and added bonus, you can recycle the liners! :) Congrats on you new little one!!
The plastic bottles now are BPA free so you are ok. The bottles before we ok to use, but if you put them in microwave (which you were never suppose to do anyway) that is when the problem came into play.
So onto your question - playtex ventair are nice, decent price, the avent are now way to expensive so I would not even consider those, dr. browns are nice if you don't mind all the parts. Evenflo and Gerber are the basic bottles and they are the least expensive and they do work good. Glass are nice but sometimes hard to find, Dr. Browns has glass but they are really heavy. Evenflow has glass and they are pretty inexpensive but they are glass and you run the risk of them breaking. So the plastic bottles are ok to use as since they are now BPA free.
If you have any other questions please let me know I work at a baby store so I am very familiar with all the bottles and things. Congrats
our Dr recomended the Dr Brown bottles BPA free they have a few parts to them but as long as you soak the inside parts after use the come clean easy.... good for formula and juice i bought about 18 so im not washing all the time... they say its not good to use the dish washer on bottles any more so we hand wash..
As someone who has done extensive research on the potential health risks of plastics, I decided to eliminate plastics completely. Companies have changed their chemical formulas for the manufacturing of plastics, but there is no guarantee that these new plastic compounds are any better Though they are BPA-free, they can contain other plastics that are still potentially hazardous, especially to children, due to their developing systems. I chose Dr. Brown's glass bottles and loved them and I also used Born Free glass bottles and also liked those.
There are a lot of brands of bottles now that are labeled "BPA free"...and I'm assuming that's what you're looking for. Glass bottles are a great way to go, they are usually slightly more expensive depending on the brand. If you don't mind generic bottles, try the cheaper version from target. I think they're either the target brand or evenflo (they're the cheapest ones there)...my friend uses those and she's pretty happy with them. I use the playtex drop-in system. It's BPA free, and very easy to use. I've used the for 7 months now, and I've never had a problem with them.
