Advice on Being Away from My Children & Husband

I'm a SAHM and have a lot of travel this next month. I'm going on a business trip with my husband, on a second trip without the family for 5 days, then a 3rd trip to Ireland to visit my oldest daughter for 11 days. I have NEVER left my 2 youngest (1st & 4th graders) for this amount of time with my husband. I'm concerned about how they will manage everything: making meals, being ready for school, homework, piano lessons. Part of me says, it will be good for them to have Dad take care of them. I'm sure they'll appreciate me more. We don't have family in the area, so they'll be on their own. Even though my children are healthy and independent, they need me in the evening to be there for them. Part of me doesn't know what to prepare ahead of time, if anything. ANY and ALL suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance Mamasource gals!

A webcam is inexpensive and they can talk to you and see you through your computer. Also, leave notes around the house for them to find or prepare an envelope for them to open each day for some loving thoughts. Your husband will manage, but a written log may help him as well.

First of all I woud say if your husband is allowing you to go then I would say he can handle it. second of all he is the father of these kids and I am sure he will not let anything happen to these children--- if all else fails there is always fast food places to resort to and if the kids are late for school a few days no big deal. everyone needs a break from schedules once in a while. it is not like you are going to be gone the whole month or even weeks
just relax!

OK I wrote up to here and I came back after viewing some other responses. I am sure that you run this household why not give your husband reins of it for the time you are gone. let him make mistakes (in your view) after all if he travels for work he can't be too dumb!

Can you postpone the trip without the family for another time? Seems like a lot of time away from your little ones. Going another time when you have been with them a lot will be easier on everyone.

HI, Jennifer -
I'd be nervous, too, but they'll be just fine. I would make up a big master schedule that includes the what/where/when of the kids' activities. Or, you may do a more "journally" type that details what is on the schedule for each day. That way, your hubby will have a cheat sheet and time schedule for every single day he's without you. When I'm away from my kids, I also help my husband by making sure I have all the staples for the kids' favorite and easy to fix meals in the house, and that all laundry is completely ready to go. I even put the outfits together for him so that the kids don't look too goofy in the combinations Daddy might come up with - not crititicizing - he tries! I'm sure you can be accessible by cell phone for those last minute questions, so don't worry. Daddy and the kids will muddle through, strengthen their bonds, and learn to appreciate Mama even more!
Have a wonderful time.
