We are taking our first distant family vacation this Memorial Day weekend. We are flying from Chicago to D.C.(about 2 hours) It will be the first flight for our 10 month old. Some things I already have in place are- O.K.'d formula with airline, carseat at rental car place, crib at hotel, backpack for site seeing (also plan on bringing umbrella stroller), I plan on buying baby food when we get there. I am just looking for any advice our something I should have planned but missed. THANKS for all your help

So What Happened?

Our trip went well. He was a little clingy and I think just over tired towards the end. But my hubby said he slept a lot the day after we came back, prob catching up. Back to norm now. THANKS for all your advice!! :)

Is your baby eating solids yet? I highly recommend bringing lots of nibblys on the plane with you. Food helped me occupy my 11 month old for 3 out of 8 hours of a flight to Ireland. Food was a major life savior.

The other ladies have given you excellent suggestions already. I have a 2.5 year old and we have traveled with her ALOT. New toys/books are always great to have on the plane. I would just caution you about the carseat rental. I have heard that they will not install it for you and that many times they don't give you instructions. We have always brought our own carseat on trips. We bring it on the plane with us since our daughter gets her own seat and sits in it. Have a great trip!

We were there two years ago during the Cherry Blossom Fest. It was awesome. Just a word of caution: you cannont take backpacks into any of the monuments/memorials....Arlington is the only one I can think of. So, that is a bit of a pain. Also, if you want tickets/tour times you need to get someone in your party out in line early-otherwise you will be seeing everything in the late afternoon. We hit a grocery store almost each day to grab snacks and food. It was a bit of a hassle, but it was better than taking it all on the plane. Have a blast!

We just flew to the west coast with our 9 month and here is what I can offer. Bring a couple new toys for the plane. We packed enough food for an entire day (since we flew for 5 hrs) which included bowls and spoons. We also packed dishsoap in our packed luggage so we could wash bottles and bowls when we got there. Keep the wipes handy because the seat backs and arm rests are an interesting thing for them to look at.

Have fun.

Diapers, a light baby blanket for the crib, a baby toy, nookie may help with altitude, bib, spoons, sippy cup, comfy shoes. I used to take a small container with dish liquid for cleaning spoons, bowls (to mix cereals). I don't know if you can now. We were just there a couple of months ago for the cherry blossoms. Have a good time.
