I have a 4 month old son...I am going back to work in a couple of weeks...my husband works the regular 8-5 work schedule..my work schedule is flexible..I can go in at 6am and leave at 2:30pm...I need advice on sleep schedules...my son's sleeping patterns vary...how did anyone out there handle their sleep schedule...should I take the first shift and wake up when the baby gets up from say 10pm-3am and then have my husband handle 3am-8am or vice versa? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi M.!

I think I might have an alternative for you. Call me when you have about 20-30 minutes for me to explain things to you.
I'am a stay at home mom who has found a wonderful team of other stay at home moms. In the process of staying home with our kids, we are also making our own business and our own income. There is absolutely NO selling, distributing, or handling of money involved!!

I look forward to hearing from you!!

I didn't have much help from my hubby, either, because I was breastfeeding, although he would help if I was frustrated. However, I worked nights, so I could sleep in the next day (as long as she did, anyway!). I read somewhere, though, of a couple that did this- I don't remember if they alternated weeks, or they alternated days, but here's the schedule: One parent would go to bed early, like 8 or 9, and the other would stay up until 11 and give the baby his 11 o'clock feeding before going to bed- then the 11 person got to sleep straight through until morning, and the person who went to bed early would get up and do the second feeding of the night- that way they both kind of one- one would get a shorter but continuous night of sleep, and the other would get more sleep, but interupted. But I agree with the other moms, you can live with less than you think, and it will end sooner than later- hopefully:)

Hi M.,

I asked my husband which shift he wanted because it was very easy for me to fall back asleep. He chose the early shift. It worked out well and I could get a good nights rest.

My husband never really did any of the night feedings, in the beginning because I was breastfeeding, then my son only wanted me and I learned as a working mom, that you can really survive on a lot less sleep then you think. But if he is willing to help give him whatever shift he wants and be thankful!

M.,
Since your son is 4 months old - soon (very soon) he'll be sleeping through the night - on average 8 hours. So hopefully you won't have this dilemman for too long.

If you have the option of your husband getting up, I say give him what ever shift he wants and kiss that man every day! My baby wanted MOMMy! My husband didn't budge much, so I had some days of no sleep at all.

Everything will be fine and you will work into a schedule that works well for both of you.
