I want to thank you all for helping me through the last 8 months. Looking back seems like I've had a mountain of issues, but I've made it through them all. I can't wait to meet my son. I only have 4 weeks to go and I am getting nervous. I do plan on not using any drugs. If anyone has any suggestions about how to cope with delivery meds or no meds. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again! The count down begins :)

What can I do next?

S.,

It is normal to be nervous as the big day nears. Just remember, women have been giving birth since the beginning of time--we are made to do it, and it is a natural thing. One thing that helped me with labor/delivery was having an open mind and trying to stay calm (realizing my body is strong and capable). After giving birth to my now 10 month old son, I realized it doesn't always happen how you may have envisioned it. I wanted to have a drug-free labor as well, but because I was induced, I chose to have an epidural at 8 cm. See, induction makes labor more intense. I made it to 8 cm though, and was on a slow drip (not much drugs), so I feel I did it pretty much naturally! My point is don't put restrictions on yourself--be kind to yourself. If you can do it naturally-great! If you get to the point where you feel you need assistance, give yourself permission. However it happens, a wonderful end result will occur--a beatiful baby to call your own!
Congrats and good luck,
Becky

S.,
Congratulations on your upcoming arrival. I have three children, and I remember vividly the count-down days.
As far as deciding on whether or not to have an epideral...
My sister had three children naturally. The first two she did not regret. The last one, looking back, would have been better if she had a epideral. (He was 10 lbs., 10 oz.) My best friend has had two naturally and would do it any other way.
I tried to have my first one without drugs (My sister could, so I must be able too). My body could not relax enough. I was in labor 13 hours. The nurse strongly suggested that I have an epideral because by this point, I was not strong enough to deliver naturally. Within 15 mins. after the epideral, I was ready to push. I went from 4 1/2 cm to ready to deliver in such a short time because my body was able to relax.
It doesn't make you a better or lesser mom either way you go. You have to do what your boby needs so that your baby can be delivered with minimal stress.

Hi S.,
I was thinking about having a natural childbirth but was open to an epidural (which I chose to have in the end). However, I do remember in my pregnancy yoga class, they recommended a giant yoga ball and some very soothing music. The main thing about it, is, that it is mind over matter. You must relax and learn to breathe through the pain. Whatever you choose, good luck! I am hoping for my next baby, to be drug free! Please let all of us know how it goes!!!
