Advice for 8 Year Old Girl Party

Here's the deal. My daughter will be 8 this Friday. She, of course, wants a party. I have not even started planning (which maybe I should have) because I just delivered our 4th kiddo 4 days ago and I am in the middle of dealing with home light-therapy for jaundice and also taking care of my 4 and 2 year old boys.
I told her we would not be doing anything this weekend but we are aiming to do SOMETHING the next weekend. Finances are tight so I can't really afford to go out and rent anything or anywhere.
I'm just wondering if anyone has ideas about parties for the home that won't be overwhelming for us. (Specifically me...) :)
We already said no to a sleep-over. She understands that this year is different because the baby just got here - but I don't want to disappoint her either.

Advice????
Thanks!

How about a snow party?

Parties are $75, so VERY affordable! Plus, she will be the talk of her circle of friends for the next week. Girls LOVE making sno-girls. I work with the girls during the party, so no work on your part. Serve cake, open presents and you are good to go!

I am booked next Saturday morning and afternoon with two birthdays (from Mamasource Mamas, thanks!) but I could squeeze in an evening partyor something on Fri or Sunday.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I took my daughter and a friend of hers the other day to sweet n sassy and got their nails polished and makeup done, they had a good time and it was only 16.00 a piece including tip. You can always make an appt like this and take 2-3 of her friends and then home for cake and punch. They would have a great time. And it would be super easy. Also I cant see you spending more than 100.00 total. good luck.

Could she just invite a couple of friends and go see that new movie "Dog Hotel"? And then have pizza nearby afterwards? I know at Cinemark the first showing of the day is cheap for everyone (if you are in McKinney the one on Hwy 75 is cheaper). I know it's not the cheapest way to go, but it is easy and no reservations are required with such short notice!!

Here's what I would do, print her out some flyers from the computer to give to a couple of her friends. My kids know they have to have an invite to go to a party. I would do like a movie theme. Get a few balloons, and some colored plates and some streamers and that's all I would do. Have someone take your daughter to the red box outside walgreens or Albertsons, the movies are new releases and a $1.00 a day. Get some popcorn, $5.00 pizza's from Little Ceasars or have them make their own. I use the Jiffy pizza mix but its cheaper to get them from Little Ceasars. And they could also do the cake. Last year my friend baked the cake and the girls covered it in icing and gummy worms.. It was too cute an they enjoyed decorating the cake. I think having less girls is better that way the attention is more on your daughter.. they can play games like freeze dance, musical chairs etc.. They have lots of little stuff on clearance you can do for prizes.. Have fun but don't overwhelm yourself.. I have found that kids have more fun when its just simple..

I'm in almost the same boat as you. I have a 7 y/o son who will be 8 in May and I'm due with our 4th child the beginning of August (I have 2 daughters, one will be 4 in Feb, and the other 2 in July). I feel I will be way to heavy, tired, and finishing last minute baby todo's to host and run around at a birthday party. So, our plan is to let our son pick an event he wants to go to...a movie, baseball game, kid's concert, bowling, etc and take one friend. That way dad can go and I can stay home, then we can just have cake when they get back afterwhich the friend can go home.

Congratulations on your new baby girl :)

Oh man..I hate to say it, but I would imagine that regardless of what you do at home..it will feel overwhelming!! I also suggest taking a few...even one or two friends, out for a little dinner and maybe a movie!! Beverly Hills Chiuaua was even at the dollar theater, and my 8 year old loved it:) I too have 4 kids, and TOTALLY understand the stress, one of the hardest parts is dealing with the other little ones during a party at home..not to mention, having to clean your house etc! My now 8 year old is looking forward to doing this very thing for her birthday. We have even been talking about taking them to sho-gun or something super cool! Good luck to you..this is a great time in your life..if you can get some sleep!! ~A.~

We are having our 8 year old's party this weekend. We always do a large at-home party for her, but that's because I have 6 brothers and sisters and 11 nieces and nephews!
This year, we are going cheap. I didn't invite as many people and I am having my husband's sister come over early to help me out with watching the baby while I set up the party.
