My 2 and 1/2 year old gets stiff necks. I would like to know if anyone can recomend a good, firm, flat, pillow for toddlers? I have searched department stores, PBKs, etc. and have not been able to find one. Thanks for your advice.

What can I do next?

Buy Buy Baby sells a flat somewhat firm pillow, but you have to make it cozy by putting on a flannel pillow case or pretty cotton one in the Summer. Costco sells a flat cozy pillow in pretty colors, but it's very soft and squishy.

I bought my sons travel pillows from Bed, Bath and Beyond. They're just the right size.

Well i'm very behind in reading my Mamasource notes, but if you are still interested in a pillow....just last week I sent away for a pillow for my two year old girl from "Mr. Bobble's Blankets" and she loves it. It's just her size. I ordered the pillow insert with two pillowcases (they have cute fabrics). My daughter has back issues and needed a pillow for support but the full size pillows were too huge and the rolled up blankets I was using weren't cutting it. I, too looked everywhere until i came across their website. mrbobblesblankets.com Good luck.

Memory foam pillows are pricy, but amazing! My husband and I both have one and I found a smaller version for my 2 1/2 year old at Bon Ton. They are really more than I have ever spent on a pillow in my life, but well worth it in the end!

Good Luck!

HI H.,
I would totally reccommend cervical / orthopedic pillows.. they are the natrual shape of our spine and really help!! My chiropractor gave me one but I also have seen them on overstock.com (2 for $14). You might want to even consider taking your child to a chiro, GOOD LUCK!!

Have you brought it up to your doctor?... As a heads up stiff necks are not always about pillows especially in little people. meanwhile have you tried having them sleep without one. My son is almost 3 and he doesn't sleep with one yet. Even as adults, coming from a background in massage therapy, are bodies aren't all designed to need pillows at all, and if we do usually one flat one does the trick. the only real purpose of a pillow is to keep our spine straight and supported during sleep, our head should still be flat not elevated. Good Luck.

I would check with a chiropractor. My chiropractor sells pillows, though I don't know which brand. He has also done some adjustments on my newborn - very gentle pressure, no bone cracking or anything like that. He/she could do an evaluation for your child and see if there is something besides a bad pillow causing the stiff neck.

I don't know how much of a sewer you are, but the best reccomenation I can give is to go to your local fabric store, buy a half-yard of his favorite cartoon character, and stuff it yourself with pillow stuffing. You could make you own for about $5 and have fun with him while doing it. This way, you can make is a big/small as you need, plus as firm/soft as you want.

I suffer from stiff necks, so bad, that often I used to wake up in agony, and just spent the whole day, or several days, where I couldn't even turn my head at all. That in mind, I can tell you, you had asked for a good firm, flat pillow... I don't know who told you to get that or if it was a guess... but what REALLY helps you not get a stiff neck? I whimpy super THIN NON firm pillow! A hard pillow makes your head go slightly UP from your back/shoulders, which are laying flat against the mattress, and this will cause a stiff neck. A small very soft pillow allows your very back of your head to just about touch the matttress through the filling.... and you can squoosh the pillow so it's a little plumper under the neck. With your head level to your back/shoulders, ya don't wake up with a stiff neck! This was learned thru trial and error for a few YEARS, and finally, I spent a whole 50 cents on a small light blue pillow, that they sell at IKEA, and this has become the most comfortable pillow EVER... and since I began to sleep on it about 4 months ago, I not once have woke up in the morning with a stiff neck. And I used to at least half the time!!!! Good luck! And, like I said, this perfect pillow is available at IKEA, they have, and I saw more then one, I think there were two, large bins of them placed around the store, with these little light blue square pillows, and they are the PERFECT consistency for NOT getting a stiff neck! I have tried every pillow out there, and for 50 cents my problem was solved LOL

H.,

I found fabulous child sized pillows at One Step Ahead. They have a catalog and a website....onestepahead.com. I believe the pillow is under $10 and you can purchase a pillowcase for it as well.
