hello moms:
I'm needing to know if any of you ever went through something like this: my soon to be four year old has had recurrent vomiting since 12/26. It occurs every two weeks, and in between episodes, he's fine. Durring episodes, no fever, no runny noses, no coughing etc etc. He all of a sudden stoppes whatever activity he was engaged in, and wants to lie down to sleep ( it always occurs in the evening ). Within a couple hours, he vomits. Pretty forceful vomiting too, not projectile, but very forced. He crys, then goes back to sleep, and wakes up absolutely fine. The first two times I really didn't think much of it, but this third time has me concerned. Any ideas?

No food allergies, no other allergies that I know of. Dad has migraines, and older brother was just diagnosed with migraines.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hey everyone. Thanks for the responses! I took him to the ped this afternoon, who sent me to the hospital for some tests. He had five vials of blood drawn and an abdominal x-ray. I should hear the results soon, so I'll let you all know! Thanks again!

My son had this as a baby. The pediatrician said it was acid reflux. It is worth the inqury and there is medicine that can fix that problem. Good luck!

I would definitely talk to the dr. about this. But, I have a few thoughts about it...

I know you mentioned migraines. I, too, get migraines and my son does, too. My son and I also have allergies and regularly take Claritin OTC orClarinex in spring and fall, because we have found out that his migraines are usually a sinus headache. When he was younger, he used to put off taking his medicine (ibuprofen is his medicine of choice but we used to take tylenol) and he would get so sick and vomit, then have to lie dow and would be wiped for the rest of the night. Now he know to immediately take it and we can usually ward off any migraine. The difference between mine and his is, I usually get an aura (eye disturbance) 1/2 hour before any pain, and as soon as the disturbance happens, I immediately grab my advil and can usually ward off further discomfort or even any pain.

I can usually look at my son before he gets a migraine - and just "KNOW" that one may be coming on. My kids have even questioned me before I get a migraine so I must give off some kind of look too. If it is a migraine - maybe he's not telling you because he really isn't in pain, beforehand if he gets an aura. My son will become pale and a bit expressionless. Sometimes he unconsciously starts rubbing his forehead or eyes right before it begins.

I also wouldn't rule out food allergies because they can pop up. Even food sensitivities - like if he has a little ice cream or dairy at night. Just may be something to consider.

Good luck.

T.,

I have a friend that had similar problems with her 5 yr old daughter. They went thru a massive amounts of tests and the Pediatric drs found out that she has stomach migraines. When you said that migraines run in the family it made sense to me. Check with your pediatrician. Good Luck and God Bless

My almost 2 yr old just went through something like this. We thought his vomiting was due to the fact i had just weaned him and cows milk was to heavy on his stomach at bed time. After a week of it on and off i took him to the doctor. Turns out he had an ear infection which can cause vertigo and clumsiness. Ear infections throw off the body's central balancing.
I myself have been prone to high blood pressure migranes and sinus related migranes. By the end of the day i usually feel like i'm 2 months pregnant, don't want to smell, or taste anything for fear of vomiting. Since migranes run in your family maybe check this out?
