Yes, that is the way we do it. We have a handmade cross-stitched one that hangs on the wall. Each day has a charm that hangs on the calendar and we take the charm off for each day in December...
So. Found a cute little advent calendar that was really cheap, and decided to grab it. I figure it will be a fun little ting to do in addition to a few other things I have planned to get my DD excited for Christmas.
Only... I'm not sure if I'm supposed to count up or down on it. Lol.
Do I open door #1 tonight?

I open door #1 first. Like Mom B. said, usually the 24th or 25th is bigger/fancier.
We always opened the number that corresponded to the day... Door #1 on December 1, etc......
There is usually a very special picture under Door 24 or 25....
Yep - start at 1, end at 24.
Really? I always thought you opened them backwards, you know, 25 days until Christmas, 24 days until Christmas, etc....good to know!
Dang....I guess we do it backwards here in our house.
We start at the 24...then count down to how many more days left UNTIL Christmas. Just like the paper chains we make. Break off a chain each day and it shows you how many days left 'til the big day.
Helps this M. to know..8 more days...7 more days...1 more day...yikes, are we really already there?!?
Have a fun with your Advent Calendar!
We always go 1 to 24. I suppose you could do a "count down" to Christmas. Kind of depends on what you bought, though. The Advent Calendar I bought for my kids tells "The Night Before Christmas."
Dec 1 - "Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house ... "
Dec 2 - "The stockings were hung by the chimney with care ... "
So, we kind of have to go in order.
We always count down. That way the kids know how many days until Christmas.
