My daughter for the last 4 months has constantly been stuffed up. She's had 2 ear infections (nov and now). Her doctor say's it's to early for tubes (I understand). She is 10 months old. Her Dr thought she had allergies, so we brought her in for tests and she didn't have any. Up until Sept she slept great. We sleep with her proped up and even then she is sooo restless. We have used humidifiers, vaporizors, vicks, you name it. She is alway's stuffed up. She is teething. Because of her stuffed up nose, she sleeps with her mouth open and does snore. I've mention this to her Dr but he doesn't seem to want to refer me to an ENT yet, because she is only 10 months. Her not sleeping well for the last 4 months is starting to take a toll on the family. I would like to know if anyone else has had similiar problems and found out it was adnoids or tonsils?

What can I do next?

They didn't remove my neighbors kids adnoids and tonsils til she had constant problems for 3.5 years and after already trying tubes.

Being stuffed up is alot to do with the weather, I myself was stuffed up with fluid in my ears for 2mos. straight, between colds, viruses and weather it finally went away.

2 ear infections isn't really that uncommon although I'm sure it's driving you nuts it's probaly just a wait and see approach with the doctors right now especiall with little one's teething. If you don't like the doctors opinion or advise see another doctor. But I'm sure it's just bad timing, and with time she'll be back to herself.

Good Luck

I haven't had this problem but my advice is don't take no for an answer. This is your child, not your doctor's. If you think you need to see someone else than do it. I nanny for a little boy who had rash after rash and the dr. said it was nothing and finally the mom made him give her a referal to a dermatoligist (sp?) and it turned out to be something.

Not to offend any Dr's on here but dr's don't know everything all the time.

Good luck!

Well, from the experiences we've had with our kids:
- 10 yr old had adenoids removed when she was 3(sleep apnea)
- 7 yr old had tubes at 1 and again when he was 3 along w/removing adenoids
- 3 yr old just had tubes and adenoids removed this last summer (he snored and didn't sleep well - he's doing great now!!)
- 16 month old had tubes put in at 11 months (with only 3 infections prior to getting tubes)
From what we have been told, they won't remove adenoids before the age of 3.
Your daughter may only be 10 months, but I would go with your own concerns and if this continues - push to see an ENT. Not to say that the only answers are surgery. At least seeking a second opinion could help you get some answers and hopefully some sleep! I hope your little one feels better soon!

There are certain criteria that needs to be met before removal of tonsils and adenoids. However, tubes may be an option to you right now. I would try to seek a second opinion. Myself my daughter had several ear infections in 2005, which her dad and his new wife got on a kick about getting her tonsils and adenoids removed. There are other factors that they are not taking into consideration such as all of her exposure to secondhand smoke. Her regular Doctor, a second opinion from a doctor he set up, and the ENT all concluded that she does not meet the criteria. And after taking her off of Singular which does have a side effect of ear infections she only had two ear infections in 2006. She also has asthma and did have upper respiratory twice in 2006. But it was a huge improvement from 2005 and some of that is that he and his family are trying to not smoke around her. I am just pointing out that there may be other factors that is causing the stuffed up nose, any pets in the house, lots of stuffed animals, rugs, etc. will cause this as well. Good Luck with what you decide to do.
