My 6 year old is scheduled to have his adnoids out. They said he should be fine the next day. I just realized that we werre invited to a picnic that day. I am worried about swimming or running around. Are these things prohibited the day after? Tell me all about it. Thanks!

No swimming for sure! No running around either. They need to relax...But do ask your doctor.
My son was the same age when he had his removed...But it's going to take sometime for him to heal as it did for my son. When he wakes up from surgery make sure you hold him or hug him only because when he wake's up from being sedated he's going to moan and groan and kind'a act like a baby, atleast my son did and he's a pretty tough kid! But I will tell you from now, stock up on jello, popcicles, yougurt, things that will be soft and cold on his throat. They told us the samething about our son that he would be "o-k" the next day but it literally took him aweek to feel better. Bottom line your not going to beable to go to the picnic, I would wait until he is fully healed and feeling better. I hope everything goes well with his surgery! I will admitt it was tough for my son, his face was pale for several days too! I hope that won't be the case for your little boy! Good Luck!
My son was 5 when he had his adenoids/tonsils removed and our ENT said to keep him down 7 - 10 days. The first 3 or 4 were kind of rough on him.
My son was much younger (14 months) but he felt worst on the day after having his adenoids removed. I would think he would still need to rest but ask the doctor about this specifically.
my son had his tonsils and adenoids removed and he was a wreck for 7-10 days post surgery. but, maybe just removing the adenoids is easier on the body.
I had my adenoids out when I was about that age... but I also had 8 teeth pulled too. I was down for several days.
I had them removed with my tonsils when I was 4 and I remember having a really really bad nose bleed in the hospital that they couldnt stop for like an hour afterwards. I know everyone is different but the doctors told my Mom that the nose bleed was because of my adnoids being removed. I know with them both I was out for about 3-4 days
I suggest passing on the picnic because even if he says he feels fine to attend he still needs his rest after surgery to heal properly
Good Luck
I think our son was only told not to ride a bike. We just loaded him up with popsickles and he was better really quick!! Good luck!
"fine the next day"... my son was miserable for atleast 4 days... but every kid is different.. see how he is feeling... but i am sure who ever you made plans with for a picnic would understand you canceling.
I would see how he feels. I have twins and they both had their adnoids out. One was fine the next day and the other twin took over a week to get better. She was drained and layed around, not feeling well. Every kid is different. I would see how he does and go home if he does not seem like himself. Although it is a simple surgury, his body will need to heal and need extra rest. Good luck!
