So What Happened?

i have tried this. it still is frustrating. he doesnt like it. i am not sure if it is the taste or the texture. we tried to use a spoon upside down in his mouth, but that didnot work either. i dont think he understands what he is supposed to do with that it is food in his mouth. my other kids were easy. i will keep trying. wish me luck.

If you can get on the website widesmiles.org, they are supposed to have some great info on issues with cleft palates. I read that it is important to start out slow and have a lot of patience. One site that I looked at recommended starting with foods very liquidy so that they go down easier and then gradually start to thicken them. This is so they go down easier and don't come out of the nose as easy. One site I looked at said that it will take your son a little longer to get the hang of it but he will. If you go on yahoo and type in "starting solids with a cleft palate" you should get a lot of info. I hope this helps

You probaly are already doing this but put a bunch of baby rice in his formula and that helps alot. Or like the other respond said put baby food in with his bottle and poke a little hole in his bottle. Hope something works and good luck!!!

a friend of mine had a son with the same problem and she fed him with a meat baster. I know it sounds wierd but she would scqueeze the baster in small amounts into his mouth and this was how he got his food. It looked funny and I never forgot it from over 25 years ago.

She also made the formula thicker with cereal added to it.

Maybe this would work for you maybe not. I do not know.
