Hello, my son is going to be evaluated for ADD soon, is anyone familiar with this disorder? I was just wondering what kind of test will he have done to confirm if he has it. I am very worried about it, he is a great kid he is not hyper at all, he is very quiet but is hard for him to concentrate with classwork, is there anyone out here with a kid who has been diagnosed with ADD? I am just wondering what are the symptoms and does medication help? thanks.........

What can I do next?

Hi, Have you tried seeing any other types of doctors. I know people who have gone to a holistic doctor or even a nureologist. Sometimes it is a food alergy. I have a friend who took her son off wheat and dairy, no medication and he made a huge improvement. I think the medication only mask the problem. You need to find what is causing the problem and eliminate or stop doing what is creating it. My son was having problems with his ears and breathing problems. We went to see a chiropractor and found he had food allergies. He has been getting adjustments and has made big changes. His doctor of course wanted me to have surgery to have tubes and have is adnoise removed. Hope you find the solution.

Pleaes have a neurologist exmine your son, especially if the evaluation comes back saying he is ADD. It can't hurt.

Good luck,

Did you have his eye sight checked? Most doctors neglect to suggest that first before medications are distributed... I am ADD and my oldest son in ADHD...He is HYPER and had difficulty concentrating...He is on meds and has been since he was 5. It DOES HELP! It is trail and error... Just make sure your doctor does the routine check ups in between refills.

I know that it is always scarey when a doctor says a bunch of letters about your kid... Do research... www.chadd.com

Take Care,

Please, please be careful about who is diagnosing your child with ADD and what medications they (?) put him on - often times this is just misdiagnosed and the medication they prescribe for ADD has long term side affects - often times because a very gifted child can't sit everyone wants to jump to the conclusion that he or she is ADD instead of just plain bored and needs other means by which to learn - Seek out also alternative doctors as well, and read, read, read and become well acquainted with ADD yourself before making any decisions - we are afterall, the ones that are our babies first teachers and we are the ones who are in charge of representing them - just cover all your bases - many, many children have a hard time concentrating on something that doesn't interest them - consider montessori schools, etc. somewhere where they will work "along" with him at his own speed and see him blossom. Also check out a website www.Mercola.com - and just click under some of his links to find out more information regarding ADD and ADHD and Ritlin - I pray this helps your son and your family - whatever decision you make I'm certain it will be out of love for your child. Blessings, L.
