Activity Ideas for a HOME Party for 5 Year Old Boy

Have you considered having the party at a playground? There is a tot-lot in Rogers Forge (I see you live in Towson) that is awesome, but there are plenty of other playgrounds and parks around that would provide lots of fun for the kids.

When is the party going to be? If it is warm enough outside, set up a sprinker and let the kids run around in the sprinkler. Bubbles, ride-on toys, balls and all those other kid toys will keep them occupied.

You don't need to entertain the parents, the party is for the kids. I think it is crazy how much money parents spend on birthday parties now! I had my parties at my house with my friends and family and everyone had a blast. Maybe times were just simpler back then (I am 25, so it really wasn't that L. ago).

Don't get caught up in trying to please the parents. The party is for the kids. I have seen friends and relatives cook all this food and spend lots of money for the adults and the children could care less and probably won't remember. What does your son like? My son loves pirates. Last year we did the pirate theme and we made the pirates hats using construction paper coverd with pirate themed gift wrapping paper. I made knights shields out of construction paper for a friend and we let the kids color and decorate them. Water parties are always good if it is hot enough. Kids never get tired of PIZZA. Go for it.

Do you have a theme for the party yet? That may help guide you in the direction of activities. For example, if you were to have a space invaders theme, the kiddies could come in costume and hunt for martians in the backyard. You could have prizes for the kid who collects the most martians. Then as a craft activity, they could make space goo (or some other catchy space name for slime).

You can do a Limbo dance and who ever is able to get under the limbo stick at the lowest gets a prize. You can play number bingo and have prizes or passing the parcel or any small craft activity ( book marks or small pencil holder--- goto Michael's for craft ideas for the party). I did the same thing at home and the kids loved it. Go to A DOLLAR STORE for prizes. Hope you have a good party.
