Hi friends!

Well, we're finally planning that fun summer vacay to San Antonio! :)

We are doing Sea World one day and would like another fun activity to do on a second day (we'll be there for 4 nights). I'm open for suggestions, but so far, my attention has been caught by:
The Children's Museum
Enchanted Springs Ranch
Natural Bridge Caverns (thought it might be a little uninteresting to the little ones)
The Zoo (but I'm thinking it'll be too hot... animals will probably be hiding)
Kiddie Park

We'll be doing the RiverWalk Friday afternoon/evening and eating dinner there. I know there are so many options... any suggestions for somewhere super kid-friendly? :)

Also wanted to check out a fun BBQ place, maybe on our way out of town on Monday. I've come across some really fun looking ones with playgrounds and backyards and everything!

Any suggestions or advice, reviews, experiences, etc, is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks, mamas!
S.

P.S. Also... at SeaWorld, is there anything we just absolutely should not miss?? We're excited about the new Sesame Street Bay of Play (my 2-year-old is in LOVE with Elmo right now!), but would like to know what else we should make a "must do/see!" :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the ideas! :)

We just returned from our little San Antonio vaca, and it was a blast!

We actually rented an apartment in the Medical Center district via http://www.vrbo.com. Despite a brief issue with the air conditioning (yikes!), it was great, and we'll definitely look into that again!

We did SeaWorld in one day on Saturday... it was lots of fun, but we'll definitely do it again when it's NOT the dead of summer. 100+ degrees was just a little much for the little ones. I'd love to try and spread SeaWorld out over 2 days, too... just so its not so jam-packed.

On Sunday, we went to Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch Safari, and it was AWESOME!! We got to feed ostriches and zebras and wildebeests, etc, all in the comfort of our car's AC. :) One tip would be to go early. We got there about 10am and the animals were all still hungry and out & about... When we were leaving after lunch, the line was CRAZY long to get in, and by then I'm sure the animals weren't as hungry and might have been hiding from the heat... But I highly recommend it!

All in all it was lots of fun. :) We can't wait to go back and try out more of your suggestions. :)

You sound like you have a good list. IF you go to the Zoo, call ahead and find out when the evening feeding time is.

We went once and the animals started making all sorts of noises and calls.. It was fun.. I guess they knew it was dinner time.
Also in that park is a wonderful old Carousel and a train..

Yes, it is very hot in San Antonio.. Take a cooler with water, ice and cool towels.. Place the them behind their necks, wrists and behind their knees.. it will keep them cool, when needed.

Natural Bridge Caverns will not keep them entertained. I suggest 8 years old.

Is there a way you can do the River Walk on a different night? Friday and Sat. will be super crowded, and would not be easy to navigate with little kids. My kids enjoyed the Witte museum. They have a lot of fun hands on activities for little kids. My kids loved the Sesame Street Bay of Play. Get there early to get seats to watch the kids at the splash area. I had to bribe my 5 year old to leave that area to see the shows. Have fun!

Since your kids are really young, they might also enjoy Morgan's Wonderland.

It will definitely be hot here and your list sounds good. A nice day trip to Guadalupe River State Park at Blanco/Hwy 46 would also keep everyone cool. You can pack a cooler of food here as well, bring swim items (sunscreen and lifejackets), etc. and cool off in the river!! The depth of water is perfect to play in and stay cool. Admission, I believe is $7 for adults and the kids may be free. Double check the website tho!! There are lots of picnic tables under shade if you get there around 10/11 or so. Water shoes are a must!! There are grills too if you want to do that!! I find it to be an inexpensive day of fun!!

As for the Riverwalk, Rainforest Cafe would probably be a fun place, but it is pricey, I think. We have a 5 & 2 year old and our 2 yo was a little scared of the thunderstorms there, tho it didn't last long. They absolutely loved the river and both love the children's museum.
Enjoy your trip and safe travels for your family!!!

My son was 3 when we first went to Natural Bridge Caverns. He liked it for the first 20 minutes, then got tired. We were down in the caves for probably an hour and I carried him for half of that I believe.

Rudy's BBQ is the place most people go. But I have heard Smokey Mo's is great. I prefer Coopers in New Braunfels. Two Brothers is a little place on West Avenue, and they have a large playground area. The BBQ is good there, but nothing that I consider "excellent." (But my dad says Two Brothers is one of his favorites).

Kiddie Park - I suggest you buy a wristband. I think on certain days it's just $10 and they can ride all the rides as many times as you want. If you don't buy a wristband, you buy tickets and each ride cost one ticket (like at a carnival). If you've never been, keep in mind that this is an OLD park. It's not fancy by any means. Old metal. Defnitely for kids 5 and under. Not above. You can bring a picnic though and sit in the shade and eat. "Central Market" HEB and Witte Museum and Zoo are all nearby there as well. My son went when he was two and LOVED it.

The zoo - we went a few weeks ago. Hot yes. But luckily there are spots that are airconditioned - the reptile house, the frog spot, the hippo area. So you can take a break and soak up some AC when you need to. Small soft coolers are allowed. When I went last I brought water bottles, sandwiches, chips, and drinks for myself and my son.

The only other place we go (in the heat of the summer) is Emerald Rainbow. Google "Emerald Rainbow Spring Branch" and you'll find it. It's an indoor bouncy-house area. Under two is free. 2-3yrs costs $5. Your 5yr old would cost $10. Adults are free. Wear socks. The kids can bounce on different bouncy castles - one with a ball pit, two with slides, one for 3 and under only. You can bowl with mini bowling balls ($2). The putt putt is outside and pretty lame. There is a form you must sign waiving liability. You can find the form online to read over before you go.
