theres a dance studio here, ballet and tap that is $60 a mo, plus venue fees and costumes. Thats usually $300 a yr. We can't afford that, but I priced it. We do have karate one night a wk at the ymca for $40 a month.

My daughter takes Karate.

The Sensei instructors, are volunteers. All black belts. And highly regarded.

My daughter's Dojo, is very traditional. Not about money.
Some are.
My daughter's school... also does not 'baby' the kids. It is traditional training and teaching. They are not baby sitters.

Each martial art... is different and per culture.
They are not all the same.

Dance classes... over $100 per month. Weekend. 1 time per week.

Martial arts... you need to ask each Dojo, what age they start a child. My daughter's Dojo, it is 5 years old. This is dependent on the child's development/being potty trained/having the ability to focus for a long time and follow direction and per their, physiological development, etc.

My daughter is four and takes a tap/ballet class once a week. We pay $40 per month but that doesn't include recital or costume fees. This is her second year and she really enjoys it!

Both our kids do martial arts. The going rate is about $100/month per student.

Our dojo charges $125/month, with the option of 4 one hour classes a week.

I wasn't overly impressed with the instructor, it was okay-ish / not bad but not somewhere I wanted my son spending a lot of his time... so after a few weeks we switched to an AMAZING dojo, with a phenom instructor. $100 per month 3x per week... and worth every. single. penny. I am sooooo thrilled to have my son be a part of their program.

We've done gymnastics at the same killer gym (again, phenom) for several years now. Pricing is 224 p/13 weeks 1x per week... or about $70 per month OR $311 for 2x per week or about $90 per month. Aka... super steep discount. Each additional hour of instruction is only about an extra $20 per month.

Dance is $12 per hour / $48 per month

$100 per month per child seems to be about the going rate.

My son takes Taekwondo. It started out with a special - 6 weeks + the uniform for $99. Then after it went to $90 per month for 2-45 minute classes per week. Once he advanced to green belt, he had to join the Black Belt Club. It is $160/month, but he can attend 4- 45 minute classes per week, plus 1- 45 minute sparring session per week, and a tutoring class and sparring class which is offered about 2 Saturdays a month. He loves it and goes every single class most weeks. Occasionally we miss a night. His school does not emphasize going to contests, but they will assist if you want to sign up for them.

He has also played youth baseball, which ran $60 per season + selling candy.

He also plays soccer which is $120 per season at his age level, but we don't have to sell extra stuff.

I know friends who have girls in dance, gymnastics, etc. and they pay about $100 a month for non-competitive classes.

The gymnastics/dance studio the kids take lessons from have been in business for over 40 years. They teach everything from buddy and me class to full on cheer tumbling for the varsity squads at local high schools in 3 towns. They also teach basic gymnastics and tumbling with a show team of tumblers. The dance part has everything for combo classes that incorporates 1/2 hour of tap along with 1/2 hour of tumbling all the way to en pointe ballet, jazz, hip hop, high steppers, and even an adult tap and an adult ballet class. They also have a seasonal ballroom dance class.

The basic charge for 1 hour per week of class in $50 per month. If you add a second class for any family member it is $84, 3 hours per week is $100, and so forth with each additional class added adding another $15 to your monthly bill. So the bill is by the family and not by the individual. I was paying, at one time, for 4 of my grandchildren to take a total of 7 one hour classes per week.

Of course with dance there is the additional charge of the class leo, which is like a uniform, they must dress accordingly. Some teachers won't let the kids attend if they are not dressed appropriately. Think of it like a team uniform. If it was a soccer team they would be required to wear a uniform to play on game day.

There are also options of Christmas programs, performances during the year, all kinds of additional costs can come up but usually you can opt out if desired.

We also do BMX, as soon as the can ride a bike without training wheels they can start riding BMX. The ABA and the NBA have joined up and there are new regulations and lots of changes but I think it will be much better. We have paid a $40 per year membership fee to the ABA and then we get a card. The card holder can ride in any race on any track in the USA and Cananda. They have to pay a fee to race but it is usually minimal. We pay $10 for trophy, $8 for a ribbon or for saver stamps. There is no guarantee of getting that particular item but if they do win they get the item they paid the cost of.

It is a lot of fun to ride the bikes and do well. There are tracks everywhere and Grand Nationals are in Tulsa Oklahoma each November.
