My 2.5 yr. old just started getting acne on his face. Right now he has 4 on his right cheek. They are red with a white dot in the middle. Has anyone else experenced this or does anyone know what causes it? He has only had it for the last two days. It started with 2 and it seems to be getting worse.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all of your responses. My son had gotten a small scratch at a b-day party that we went to. I didn't think anything of it b/c he didn't cry when it happened and it didn't even break the skin. It was so minor it was gone that night. The acne showed up on the same cheek and was just getting worse so I started thinking it might be a staff infection. I called my Ped. and he agreed. He called in a prescription for me and it is doing much better today. It is crazy to think that a tiny scratch could cause an infection but my Ped. says it is not that uncommon. Thanks again!

It is probably not acne but folliculitis. That is infection of the hair follical. Both my child have it. The best treatment I have found is a lotion with Lactic acid. I know walgreen's has one (you can ask the pharmacy). It is usually on the bottom shelf in the lotion section. The other thing you need to do is just make sure you keep it moisturized.

Hi R.. As long as you are sure that it is acne I can tell you what worked for my children and what the doctor suggested. They said that children in the summer are prone to getting acne first of all. Second they suggested washing the face in Dove soap and then usning an over the counter cortizone cream. It worked wonders for my kiddos and that is what the derm dr. that we went to suggested as well. Good Luck!

Try cutting back on sweets, maybe try to put a dab of balmax for diaper rash on the acne.
this could also be a heat rash on his face, try cooling his face off several time a day.
good luck

My daughter has gotten this a few times, but she has really dry skin. The dermatologist said that it is related to her dry skin. I have to put lotion on her twice a day, and I just started having to put it on her cheeks as well. If you son has any dry skin problems, this could be the cause.

Sounds like heat rash/allergic reaction. If your son drools in his sleep and gets warm, it can cause this type of reaction.
