Acidic Things

My third child seems to not be able to have acidic things... like orange juice (which I tend to give especially if I want to flush out their colds), apple juice (is that really acidic, even at the lowest level acidic), and spaghetti. We make a lot of homemade meals and eat very healthy. I am learning what is alkaline and what is acidic and lemon is alkaline and oranges are if you take it at the moment, or otherwise, it becomes acidic as it sits there. So, anyone heard of people or toddlers can't have acidic things? He gets diaherra (spelling?) and yeast infection quickly on his backend. I figured it out by stopping those things and it seemed to be the issue and I put destitin (which works wonders for my boys over the years)to relieve the soreness and pain and it goes away. Please let me know what you think or experienced in this area. Thanks.

they might have reflux problem.. go bring kids to get endocsopy done. About the yeast infection...to use own towels..my sisters kids had to do that.. his body just can't fight off infections like the other kids can.. yeast infection could also spread from anything... take him to doctor.. i use to get infections and i would go to doctor and they would give me diflucan.. but, it only lasted for a short while before i got it again.. So, the problem was that i would be giving to my husband.. due to toilet seats.. baths... etc.. so he would have to take meds also..
also, have him take acidophollous vitamin pills or lots of yogurt.. I would speak to pediatrician first about this if u haven't already..

Hi S.,
It sounds like your son has a salicylate sensitivity. My daughter has the same thing. Salicylates are what make up aspirin but are also naturally occuring in foods, especially citrus. My daughter couldn't eat apples, lemon, oranges & tomato. We've been doing NAET allergy treatments and it seems to be helping. You can google lots of information and get a list of the foods at salicylatesensitivity.com. Also, check out feingold.org for some very useful info.
Good luck!

when i was breastfeeding my oldest son, he was so sensitive to acidic foods that if I ate too much, he would get a raging diaper rash. one big glass of orange or grapefruit juice was enough to do it. for a while, he would even get a light rash around his mouth if he ate tomato sauce, etc... he has outgrown it, thank goodness.
