Acid Reflux - Edmonds, WA

I have been experiencing acid reflux since I was pregnant with my second child. I took zantac while pregnant as needed and it helped. I've read that it's not considered safe while nursing however.

My reflux is worse than ever and I would like to avoid taking medications if at all possible while nursing. I also take thyroid medication, so I'm supposed to avoid antacids for a certain period after taking my meds. Any ideas or experiences?

What can I do next?

A small amount of baking soda in water will get rid of you flare-up brifely. Tastes awful so I only used it when it was bad.

Hi TJ,

Ask your doctor about ginger root. It's good for alot of things digestive. Can buy it in it's natural state, powdered, as an oil, a tea, or as a supplement.

Quotes taken from a Lifescript article:http://www.lifescript.com/channels/food_nutrition/herbs/g...

"Ginger is a popular treatment for easing digestive upsets, because of its action on the digestive tract to increase digestive fluid and neutralize acids, which can contribute to upset stomach."

"There is no RDA for ginger because it is not an essential nutrient.

General recommendations given for digestive upsets, arthritis and chronic pain or muscle aches is to take 100-200 mg in pill form, 1-2 grams of fresh powdered ginger, or a fresh ½-inch piece, each of which should be taken with food to avoid stomach irritation."

Feel better. :o)

TJ,

I used Tums until it all turned into fruity flavored heartburn, then I was prescribed Protonix even while I was nursing both of my kids. The protonix worked wonders for me.

Hope this helps,
Melissa

Mountain Dew was the only non-medication that worked for me. But it's NOT something I'd recommend for anyone watching calories!

Pepcid Complete was the medication my OB recommended while I was pregnant and while I was nursing. It worked wonderfully well.

I know many people who have had great relief from acid reflux using the nutritional shakes we use and distribute! One friend recently started our products, and was able to quit taking the meds she'd been using for many years. What they are are completely balanced patented nutritional formulas and our whole family has seen results and would not be without them which is why we made a home based business out of distributing them and helping others to do the same if they want. If you want more info let me know. My email is ____@____.com

Aloe does help to heal acid reflux, you can purchase distilled aloe from health stores and it tastes like water.

What is causing the acid reflux? What does your diet look like?

I'd like to introduce you to Nomi Shannon... She had acid reflux and has healed it. I also had thyroid issues and it has healed since doing the same thing. Check it out:

I vote for Aloe Vera juice. My Dad used it (not sure of dose) and after a lifetime of reflux, is cured. I think he drank it daily for 4-6 weeks and also drank peppermint tea. They both are good for healing the sores inside the stomach, rather than just masking the symptoms as medications do.

XanGo juice has helped many people with acid reflux, even my own. I used to take harsh medications but was able to stop once I found out about XanGo. Read about it at www.makebigdreamshappen.com
