Hi Moms! I have a problem I am hoping someone can help with! I have a 6 year old daughter who has been potty trained since she was 2 1/2. Lately she has been having a LOT of accidents. She won't tell us when she accidentally wets her pants and won't even admit to it when she is completely drenched. She just always tells us she couldn't make it. We have tried everything and I don't want her to get made fun of at school. Any suggestions?!?!?

What can I do next?

i'm no doctor, but check to see if it is a medical problem as far as a urinary tract infection.

My name is Bobbie and I too have a 6 year old,she used to have problems wetting the bed and I couldn't understand why but I started assking her if she had to go and she would say no ,so I asked her to try.Well now she don't have any problems. It could be that she is scared to tell you that she wet, because she thinks you will be mad at her.And you might want to take her to the doctor to make sure she doesn't have an infection or that her bladder is not to small. Good luck and let heer know that if she does wet herself that you will still love.

I agree that maybe something may be brother her, sometimes children do this sort of thing for our attention. And it could also be a medical problem. It wouldn't hurt to get some advise from the doctor.

One of my co-workers experienced the same thing with her son when he was your daughters age. She took him to the doctor to ask basic questions, such as what she should do about her 6 year old son wetting himself and sometimes the bed. The doctor informed her that wetting on himself at that age was a red flag if nothing traumatic had happened to him, which it hadn't. So, the doctor ran tests and one came back that her son was diabetic. She had not noticed an increase in her sons fluid intake, but the doctor told her he had to have increased his fluid intake in order for him to wet himself so frequently. All of this to say, you might want to have seen by her doctor. Good luck!

Hi B.! Sounds like she was potty trained but is having a relapse for some reason. Well try to remember that when she was potty trained she was a little kid and now she is a pre-teen, little woman! She may be having some self confidence or self esteem issues or something about going potty is embarrassing her. Personally I would keep her home from school to give her some air and regroup, like for a week if you can manage it. And just take some time to reconnect with her, growing up and changing is tough, especially for girls. Boys don't change too much, or at least they are not usually as aware of it. So give her some extra TLC, she is still your little baby and don't put an extra pressure on an already leaky bladder, just give her a day off and spend the rest of the week trying to reconnect and ask her if she is ok and stuff, let her pee whenever she wants, and remind her at the end of the week that she will have to return to school and if there is anything she wants to discuss now is the time and you will do your best to help her with whatever it is no matter what, be sure to include an embarrassing story from your own past if you can.

Oh my gosh, this is so familiar! My daughter was 2 when she potty trained herself and when she turned six she started wetting the bed. For a while I just kept plastic sheets on the bed. She did it everynight. I didn't put anything into it b/c my sister had accidents till she was 12. Also she was very stressed at the time, we all were. My husband was deployed at the time(Iraq). So I thought once he came home she would stop. He came home and she still was wetting the bed, and had an accident at school(she got nervous before a test). She is now on meds(DESMOPRESSIN 0.01%) and it works wonders. Accidents only once or twice a month. I think this will be our last refill. She hasn't had an episode in 10 months. I hope this helps.

I would take her to the doctor asap to see if she has a kidney or bladder problem. If it is urinary tract infection, it will burn when she urinates so you could ask her if that is happening too. good luck and I hope you find the problem soon.

Has there been a change in your house recently? Not giving her the attention she wants, kids do this for attention. It could be medical, ask her if she is having pain when she urinates. She being bothered by anyone, friends, family members, time to sit and talk to her, ask her what is wrong.

Hope this helps, and you get thru this, I know my mom took in a little girl when my brother was younger and he was all potty trained and he started wetting the bed, he realized he wasnt the baby anymore so he did it for attention.

Good suggestions so far, but be sure to handle it delicately (make sure she doesn't get ridicule for it, but remind her that she's a big girl and unless there's a medical reason she's doing it, it's not acceptable). Rule out anything medical, and keep in mind it could just be that she's at an age where she just doesn't want to stop doing whatever it is she's doing to go to the potty. My stepdaughter did the same thing around that age, as did one of my sisters.

Usually when kids revert back to wetting their pants, they have experienced something traumatic. My daughter did the same thing when my husband and I separated for a short time. Take her aside and ask her if there is anything she wants to talk about. If this is not the case, the other thing might be that she wants to be treated like a baby again. My four year old started acting like a baby when her little sister was born this year.

My Friends daughter had the same problem, come to find out she had a bladder infection. She got them often and that is why she would have her accidents often. After they found that out they stop getting on to her so try to be understanding, also they reminded her to go often and had pullups for night time. It isn't her fault and they are so embaressed that they don't want to tell anyone, you might want to get your daughter check out! I am not saying that she has it but it could be what is going on. Good luck and I hope all works out!

Have you taken her to the Dr to make sure that she doesn't have a bladder infection or something to that affect? Maybe something is going on in her life, do a little research and see she may be doing it to get attention....Good luck!

Have you taken her to the Doctor to see if she has a urinary tract infection? A lot of girls get infections such as yeast infections and urinary tract infections from taking bubble baths, wearing silk panties, and stuff like that. Rule that out before getting on to her too much, she really may not be able to hold it.
