My son has had some unusual accidents lately. He is almost 10. He has wetted himself just yesterday. But what is so strange, he went to the bathroom 5 minutes before. I have noticed when he goes to the bathroom he ends up going within minutes later. Is this really a concern? Is it common? Should I take him to the doctor? I dont want to take him if he doesn't need to, he is very embarassed.

What can I do next?

Sometimes children pee their pants because they feel this is the only thing in this world that they can control. He might be stressed out maybe for many reasons, but being 10 is not easy school gets a little harder and friends at school. If he doesn't stop soon have a physical done on him. Sometimes they have extra water in a certain area that may be the cause.

He might have a bladder infection. That is what it sounds like to me & yes i think u should take him to the dr. regardless if your not sure if there is a problem or not.

Sounds like bladder or urinary track infection. Ask him if it hurts to pee. My guess is you should have him checked out either way. If this is not something you have had a problem with before, you should talk to his doctor about it.

Hi, I would at least call your sons doctor to see if they think he should be seen. They would know best. It sounds to me like a bladder infection. Better safe than sorry.

Hi E.!

I personally would first call the nursing staff and discuss it with them. They will be brutly honest with on weather or not you should come in. From a non medical degreed point of view, I would sit down and talk with him first. See if something is going on that you don't know about. But if he doesn't open up, I would take him in. This could be traumatizing to a 10 year old if it happens at school or in public. Nip it in the butt now, don't wait. JMHOP.

Take him to a doctor, I had the same kind of problem as a child. I would get into all kinds of trouble for it, until my mother decided to seek medical attention. We learned that not just I but a brother who is two years older had a narrowing of the urethra that caused us not to always feel when we had to go. Not another embarassing moment since the outpatient procedure was performed. It turns out the problem is very commom place among young children.

Hi, my son is 12 and has had a similar problem recently. He has been urinating frequently. I know that is one of the signs of diabetes and other serious diseases. I took him in to be checked out and it turned out to be just stress. We recently moved and he had to start a new school. He has a lot of friends there so I was surprised but relieved it was nothing serious. It is best to have it checked out.

This sounds like possibly a bladder infection. I've had those before myself and I think a simple urine sample at the DR's office can determine if this is the case. Something easy to detect and cure w/ medicine.

Just to be safe, I would call and talk to a nurse about it. They'll tell you honestly if he needs to be seen by a dr. I know that frequent urination is a sign of diabetes. Here are the other possible signs: frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, irritability, blurry vision. Any of these can be signs...does not have to be all of them. Could also just be stress or some infection like the other ladies mentioned already. But it never hurts to check in with the dr's office. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!
