About to Do My Own Dose of Exposure Therapy

Ever since my daughter had lice this summer I have been a FREAK about it and am even scared to try on clothes in a store. My kids' hair stays in buns or braids when we are out and hair sprayed to high heaven with Fairy Tales and hair spray. We use tea tree oil shampoo daily. I have gotten waaaaaay better than I was about a month ago... taking baby steps, ya know? LOL Well I need a new outfit for tomorrow night so I am going to have to go the exposure therapy route and force myself to just do it because I can never buy something off the rack and have it just fit right. I always did it before without a single thought and never got lice (luckily) so I have that going for me... but a part of me is strongly resisting going shopping right now. Someone please shove my butt out the door so that I can have a new outfit for my date. :)) Thanks!

What can I do next?

Leave your house NOW !!!! LOL

Honestly, I buy clothing from the Thrift Store all the time and have never gotten lice, or any other critters, from it.

Think nice thoughts about the wonderful time you will have on your date and you will get through it.

Sweetie, snap out of it-trying on clothing is not how you get lice! Now get out there and shop! "Take one for the team!"

Even the thrift stores often fumigate their clothing. Frankly, with all of the sizing they put on the fabric (and all your clothes, you know, are usually sewn together without the fabric being prewashed) I can't imagine lice or anything else living on it!

The chances of you getting lice from trying on clothes at the store is very slim. Unless you're trying on hats, I wouldn't be worried.

So get out there, find a cute outfit for your date and quit freaking out.

I know it's gross, but so many kids go through it. There are so many things out there that are gross that you don't even realize you're touching or eating, you just need to get zen about it. If it helps to know there are new & improved options, there is a new prescription drug called Sklice (it's a lotion) that was approved in February 2012 that you put on the hair and it kills the lice and doesn't require nit combing.

You can do this. It's just a bug. A bug that we have treatment for, so get your zen on;)

Unless you are trying on clothes that a bunch of 3rd graders also tried on, I think you are safe.
Happy shopping!

added: I know how you feel. It took me a looooong time to feel ok about my son jumping in bed with me even though I had been checking him regularly.
