I've had two jeeps, never had the noise in the rear end tho. You better have a mechanic take a ride with you and see what he thinks.... since it could be dangerous.

It could be a sway bar or your rear differential both can cause problems. Take it in and have a mechanic ride with you so that they can hear/feel it too. Does it sound like a plane taking off like a constant whirrring noise? I have a Land Rover and we had to have the rear differential rebuilt and that is what it sounded like and it felt like the rear end was wigggleing side to side a bit. For us the rear differential was expensive just because it was a Land Rover but I have had it redone on an explorer and wasn't to bad.
I had a car once with a noise that sounded like that. I blew it off. The axle broke and when that happened I had no control of my car. Fortunately it happened in a fairly empty parking lot. I can only imagine how bad it could have been. Get it checked out. It may be just a noise from an older car, it could be something serious.
My son has a little pick up truck. When his started making a sound like something under the car was shifting back and forth, it turned out to be a broken sway bar. (I think that's what it was.)
Anyone knowing a little something about cars can look under the jeep and see if a vertical piece near a wheel is cracked. (I know what to look for now.) It was NOT expensive to fix so I hope that is what you have.
I too have owned 2 brand new jeeps and never did have what you describe. Something is not right. I sold mine at about 170,000 miles. They always had brake issues on a yearly basis. The 2nd one had the transmission going. Great size, not too big and not too little however too much maintenance.
