Hi, I am a first time mom and I have been having stomach cramps whenever I eat. I went and spoke to a nurse and she told me that it is probably contractions but I am just 6 weeks pregnant and I am not spotting or anything like that.

Any suggestion is accepted.

What can I do next?

Hi Pamela and congratulations!!!! You are in for the ride of your life. If you are not spotting, I wouldn't worry too much as that is not good for you. Your body is going to start shifting to accomodate for the changes, yes even at this early stage. Best thing to do is stay hydrated as that will help.
Good Luck! and keep me posted if you can.
Lou

Hi Mrs. P,

Drink lots of water, I don't mean the normal, drink a little extra. You see moms who are carring a baby need the extra water, the baby is surrounded by water and you body needs the extra water to help balance all the hormones, crazy things that has started to happen to you. Foods that are high in carbs, also need water to help with the digestion so if your baby is stressed and your body too it hurts like cramps or contractions. Have a water bottle handy or at reach try to drink water every hour, u be the judge, let me know if it works..

congrats

At six weeks it is probably your uterus stretching and/or the implanting process........................If you are ever really concern during your pregnancy talk to your OB NOT a nurse................unless the nurse is in your OB office, but whomever told you that it's contrations is not a very good nurse....NOT at 6 weeks!!! A really great website for this and other pregnancy questions is babycenter.com

In crease your water intake and it could be round ligament pain. Just your body doing it's job for the baby. But I agree with everyone else.. CONTRACTIONS at 6 weeks.. UMM NO.

Note to self do not ever speak to that nurse again since she has no idea what she is talking about. If it continues talk to the Dr.

I think everyone else is right. That nurse didn't know what she's talking about. It's just stretching or maybe your own version of morning sickness. I had cramps and morning sickness for the first 4 months. Good luck!

I completely agree with Julie. It would not be contractions at 6 weeks!

All pregnancies are different, for my first I had no cramps, and I miscarried at 13 weeks. My second, I had LOTS of cramps. In fact, I thought for sure I was NOT pregnant because I thought my period was coming. But I was pregnant. And it is was just my uterus stretching and growing. I actually liked the feeling a lot because I felt like I could feel something happening. It was reassuring to me. For my third pregnancy I did not have any cramps and everything went fine, she is 8 months old now. So you see, all pregnancies are different. You can't compare yours with anyone else.

If you see spotting or they get so painful that it worries you then go see the doctor immediately. If you are not comfortable with what the nurse says then ask for the doctor. If they don't let you talk to your doctor then get a new one.

Also, I see you are from Miami Beach, I have an EXCELLENT pediatrician on 41st and Royal Palm. I love, love, love her! If you are interested, e-mail me direct and I'll give you her information.

Good luck!

hey. have you been tested for a UTI - urinary tract infection. it's common to have them when pregnant, b/c of the internal physical changes. one of the symptoms is cramps. i had it when pregnant- never had it before - can't remember how far along i was. But speak to your doc or midwife.

HI P., I'm sorry but I dont speak english. Do you write me in Spanish?
