A Very Light Rash on Tummy?

Hi moms - I've noticed some very light red speckles on my 33 month old boy's torso. They are very pale, spread out, don't look like sores. They look kind of like prickly heat and are hard to see if the light in the room isn't bright. They don't seem to bother him, and I haven't noticed a fever or anything. Just wondering if I should change the soap first(he's been showering in MY shower w/dove soap as opposed to his shower with his baby soap) or if I should visit the pediatrician. I don't want to panic, but I don't want to wait if I shouldn't. Thanks!

What can I do next?

hey P., i have a 13 mos. old baby boy and he developed a very similar rash - it was only on his abdomen and back. i couldn't figure out what it was for the life of me! and like your baby, he didn't seem bothered by it at all. finally, his dad told me that over the weekend he bathed our son with Dial. well that explained it for me! at the pharmacist's suggestion, i used cortizone cream .5% and it cleared up in two days. in the interim, i quickly switched him back to baby soap. i don't know when to switch to adult soap but i know now's not the time! i'm sure that's exactly what happened w/your baby. :)
Good luck! :)

Check you laundry detergent as well and make sure you are using one with free perfumes. Drift is a great baby detergent but so expensive for a sm box. We used tide free and had no problems. My daughter who is 2 just got done with a rash that sounds about the same but it was a strep rash. Couldn't even tell the child was sick until I took her in. Good luck

I personally would call the pediatrician just to be safe. It could be nothing (and some needed peace of mind) or it could be something that needs some treatment.

Our pediatrician admittedly doesn't know how to distinguish between rashes, so he usually refers to a dermatologist to make sure the treatment and diagnosis are appropriate.

Our daughter was less than a year when she first got to the pediatrician to diagnose a rash as eczema. We treat it with a good over the counter lotion the dermatologist recommended that costs $5/month.

We had a major health issue in our family about 18 months ago ( had cancer), so I tend to be much more cautions when it comes to anything and admit I'm overly paranoid about health-related items. Our doctors are very understanding and work patiently with us.

I would call the ped, but definitely don't panic. Most rashes turn out to be nothing; however, my personal experience with rashes is that it doesn't hurt to ask and, in some cases, is well worth it. You might try changing the soap if this continues. Another thing I wonder is if he's been on any medications or new foods. My son gets rashes from time to time just like my husband. Most of the time, they're just prickly heat or some unexplained rash. If it starts to bother him, or spreads, or gets worse, or he gets a fever -- definitely go to the ped. Otherwise, I woudl give them a call and see what they want to do if anything.

It could also be dryer sheets. I think it is recommended not to use dryer sheets with your kids clothes. My nephew developed a horrible rash and it was because of dryer sheets. I know Dove is soft, but I would stick to the baby soap. If he likes showering in your shower bring his soap in there. I also know that Johnson's and Johnson's makes a bar soap if he doesn't like the liquid.

Sounds like a soap reaction, try benadryl cream or Aveno oatmeal cream, do not bathe everyday and get Eucerine Cream for daily use. Keep him in a nice cozy cotton shirt.
