A Smelly 5 Month Old

I have a 5 month old baby boy who is absolutely gorgeous but his underarms smell like a 13-year boy's. I noticed it a few weeks ago and it is not going away, no matter how many baths, lotion or baby powder I put on him. Has any one ever had anything like this with their children? I have two other kids who have never smelled like this.

What can I do next?

I thought I was the only one!! I posted the same question on here when my son was a baby and didn't get a single response! Anywho, my son was the exact same way!! He had the stinkiest pits!! It was so gross. Fortunately he grew out of it. I'd say when he was about between 7-9 months old. I can't really remember now, but thankfully it stopped!!
Good luck!!

He may have a yeast infection in the folds in there. My son had the same thing in his neck and armpits. You know, no air really gets in there and this can happen. I got some medicated lotion from the doctor (I think it is called nystatin...not sure if that is the right name or not)to put on it any time that I noticed it happening. It was only when he was pretty little because he doesn't move quite that much yet. He is 10 mo. now and hasn't had it for a long time.

Good luck to you~

Sounds like yeast to me, too. There are homeopathic options, too: using coconut oil for example. But they take longer to work. Also, I would be extra diligent about using baby powder with cornstarch to keep the area dry, maybe even use Gold Bond powder. I think there is a baby version of it.

My daughter had the same problem. She outgrew it around 7-8 months. I completely understand. I was so embarassed when I took her to daycare. Good luck

Call your ped. A five month old should not smell. It could be a sign of some sort of infection.

I think you should tell his pediatrian about it, this doesn't seem normal. Maybe they would do some tests to make sure nothing is wrong and they could give you some advice.

i have had this happen but my son was older...The doctor said that I should use anti bacterial soap. The odor is caused by bacteria on their skin. I would still check with your doctor but since I have been using dial on him, it has worked.

I would call the Dr. and run it by him/her -see if you can follow up with an endocrinologist. That would be my advice-I am sure it is nothing serious though- let us know!
