A Really Strange Question

Does anyone else have a child that eats cat food? How do I get my 2 1/2 year old son to stop eating it? I don't think it is harming him, but I just think it is really nasty, and smelly. I am sure that it shouldn't bother me so much but it just gets under my skin for some reason... any ideas?

What can I do next?

That brought up a silly memory for me: I was EXTREMELY "confident" (egotistical?) as a child about my running abilities. I would run circles around any 5th grader when I was only in 1st grade. When I was in 4th grade, a boy named Stoney was THE ONLY boy in all 4th grade classes that could beat me (long distance AND sprints) and I hated him so much...when I found out he regularly ate Tender Vittles, I just knew that was why he was faster. It was the only thing that made sense, in my eyes (ha). He was healthy, a smart guy, just fine, but loved his catfood. Thanks for the funny memory. :P

Hi C.,

My son eats dog food out of the dog dish, I just tell him "We don't eat puppy food, its for puppies" and I move it out of his reach until he loses interest. I think he only does it because he sees the dogs do it and I think its a normal thing for kids. Just move the dish out of his reach.

My son ate dog food from about 7 to 9 months. We did not allow it but he would sneak it every time we turned our backs. I did not think much of it but asked his pedi anyway. She said do NOT let them eat it, it is not good for them. It won't make him sick but is not healthy. Good news is they grow out of it!!!! So, don't worry about sending your kid off to college with a bag of cat food in hand =D

Dog food here... It seemed like forever that he was doin that! Same thing, I didn't thik it would hurt him, but its just gross. When it became more frequent, started getting on to him for even going near the dog food and would tell him it was yucky. He has gotten a couple of hand swats for it, but now it is not a big problem.
