My son did this when we was about 2.5. We just used lubricating drops for his eyes and it seemed to help. He has allergies...

Hello K.,

My 3 year old son started doing this a few weeks, it's really been freaking me out. I tried eye drops and allergy medicine but saw no improvement. Then I was on the internet and found this site and many other like it.

Check out this link http://www.ctds.info/tics.html

It talks about Linking tics to a Magnesium Deficiency. Google it or read the site above, very interesting. So I gave it a try, I starting giving my son more magnesium rich foods such as banana, beans, almonds, cashews etc and I really have seem a great improvement, I started this two days ago and he almost never does it anymore. Crazy! I know, but it really seems to be working. I would love to know if this works for you, give it a try. Please let me know if you do see an improvement, I'm starting to wonder if it's just going away or if the food is really making a difference.

Good luck!

My oldest did that for a couple of weeks at about that age, it's just some weird phase/tic thing. Just ignore it and it will be gone as quickly as it came. Mine derived the nickname "winky" out of it.. lol. I still call him that now and then and he's 30.

My son did the same thing when he was that age. Not sure what it was but I suspect it was his allergies? He is 5 now and no longer does it

Check in with an opthamologist. My five year old had been doing this for awhile and I just chalked it up to dry eyes or a nervous tick. I didn't think kids that age really ever had bad eye sight. He recently said he was having trouble seeing the teacher write at school. Took him for an eye exam and he needs glasses. His eye doc asked about whether or not he'd been blinking....turns out its sometimes the eyes way of trying to focus on blurry things. Also, eye doc guessed that my son was a preemie...he said that most preemies do have issues with vision earlier than most kids. So now my lil guy is gonna wear cute little specs and I think they make him look adorable. I was reading some info while waiting at the eye docs and they CAN do optical tests on young kids...even babies. Just take him in and put your mind at ease.

This ahppened with us and our son... I think he was about 2. Our ped told us it was normal and would grow out of it. He have him some tests and nothing, we took him to the eye doctor and nothing. Sure enough about 2 months later it went away. Not sure why, but its gone.
Good Luck!

Stress
anxiety
nervous tic
dry eyes
These things, can also cause a lot of blinking. And yes, even very young children can get stress.

It is probably a "tick". You can google it. It will pass after like 1-2 months. My son did that a little while ago, but, then go away after like 1 month.

But, if last too long, then go check with doctor.
