Everytime I cough these days my panties are wet, like it was when I was pregnant. My son is 8 months old, however it just started happening. He was delivered emergency c section. What does this mean? Weak Kagle? Weak pelvic floor? I have taken 2 pregnancy tests, all negative.
Is this my future???Ugh!!
A little insight please ladies.
Thanks.

What can I do next?

Definitely Kegel. It has nothing to do with the type of delivery, although coached pushing (doc saying, push, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,....) increases the damage to the pubococcygeal muscle (Kegel muscle). The pressure of the baby on the pelvic floor (PC/Kegel muscle) can cause this to happen.

I also find that women with pubic bone subluxations/misalignments tend to have more issues with incontinence, as it puts unnecessary pressure on the bladder. Getting the pubic bone adjusted by a chiropractor can be extremely helpful.

If doing 200 Kegels each day doesn't fix this, then maybe find a Pilates instructor and work on ALL of the core muscles....not just a class, as you need the personal instruction to be sure you are doing it right.

I know ALL about it, having had 4 kids and the largest being 11 pounds, born naturally, at home. LOL

welcome to my world!

After I had my first child it happened but not every time... after having my 5th, its an every day deal. Laughing, coughing, sneezing.. yup a little bit slips out, even if I just got done going.

When you feel like you going to cough, sneeze or laugh crossing your legs becomes second nature ;)

Unfortunately, your bladder sphincter muscles probably are not as strong as they once were, from being pregnant before. I doubt they are a sign of being pregnant again, I would think you would notice other, more obvious, things.

I had my daughter 4 years ago - and I STILL sometimes leak a little when I cough or sneeze. I can't help it, but if I happen to be sick, where I am coughing and sneezing a lot more than typical, I make sure I am wearing a pad.

this happens to me but more so when i'm sick because i have to cough more or sneeze more often and harder. i believe it is weak kegels and that doing excersizes like we were to do while pregnant will help but i myself was never good at doing them often enough to matter. if you have bad days too just buy some poise pads and then you won't have to worry about accidents and just change them when you do. another thing to do is everytime you go to the bathroom go pee and then stop and hold it for a few seconds and keep doing that til you're done. this way you are doing kegels often and you shouldn't forget.

You'd have to go to the doctor to find out what's going on for sure, but as a short term solution, start wearing pads full time and drink more water. I don't know if drinking more water will help or hurt, but most people don't drink enough water anyhow so I thought I'd just toss that one in there for good measure. <3

Coughing make muscles weak. The pressure of the action of coughing just puts pressure there over and over. It will go away as soon as you stop coughing and then next time you get a cough it may not even happen again.

Hi--
When this happened to me my chiropractor used a cold laser to re-stimulate the nerve that controls bladder control and it fixed it immediately. Kegels won't help if the nerve isn't firing correctly. First fix the nerve, then start the kegels. I can give you the name of the chiro if you are interested.

Start Kegles, and talk to your doctor. With a C section I am surprised you are leaking so much (more common with vag del) but it can also happen to some woman just with age. It is so normal (most woman who have kids have some issue with this) so don't be embarrassed and talk to your doctor about your options.

lie on the bed/floor & do those Kegel exercises. Then, when you feel you have better control, do them standing up. Oh, & do it several times each day!

drink lots of water & some cranberry juice. Avoid soda, booze, etc.

before you do any lifting, baby included, clench into the Kegel position 1st. You will be amazed at how much this helps. Quite often women "bear down" when lifting. This also helps during coughing, sneezing, etc. :)

& TMI, think about your sexual positions....:)

I just had an OB appointment about a week ago and I mentioned that I have that problem sometimes when I cough. She said that if it got too bad and I wanted to do something about it, they are refer me for physical therapy. She said it is more than just kagel exercises and it really works to strengthen those muscles. So call your OB and see if you can get referral for PT.

Work on strengthening your pelvic floor muscles by using the Pelvic tilt excersize, along with Kegles. I had an emergency c-section as well, and at times still ( after 8 years) will leak a tiny amount if coughing( forcefully). Also when you cough, tighten up that area right before. It will help to strengthen those muscles even more, and decrease leaking.
