Today is my first ultrasound. Any advice? I am nervous and excited at the same time (and we get to find out if it's twins!). This is our first baby and my husband is kind of a worrywart...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Everything went great and there's only one baby---maybe next time! It made it all the more real to both me and Rich. The baby was wiggling and throwing his/her arms about (it looked like it was doing the "Robot" Dance) and it has my mother's nose. Everything is progressing very well and the doctor said it looks great! Thanks so much!

C.,

You have nothing to worry about. Ultrasounds are a fun visit to the doctor. Of all the times you go during pregnancy, these visits are totally the most awsome. You'll love it. They might ask you to drink a glass of sweet liquid, but that's not bad.

Relax and have a fun time. I hope your husband gets to go with you. I loved my appointments when I had Ken with me. He even made getting my blood drawn more bearable.

Go to the bathroom before you leave the house because I don't think they will let you go after you drink that liquid until your appointment is over.

Congratulations C.! And have a joyful and Merry Christmas!!!

My number one advice is to ask any questions about it while you're there. Don't be shy and don't stress over anything either. Mostly, you just lay back and watch them work their magic. They have certain things they are required to do (measurements mostly) and then they will typically answer any questions you have, print you out some little pictures and send you on your way. It's really fun!

Oh, and if you want to see the baby move around, drink some orange juice or some other sweetened juice about 1/2 hour before your appointment.

ultrasounds are easy nothing to be nervous about, you'll get to see your little "peanut" and see his or her heartbeat. It's more exciting than anything.

I would call the office and get instructions, if they didn't give them to you on your forms. One person said to go to the bathroom before you left the house, my doctor never gave me sweet liquid and they wanted me to drink a lot of water and have a very full bladder. I didn't listen very well (a little shy) when they said to slide my pant down farther, and got the gel all over the my clothing, but maybe it was just a messy person doing it.

This really is one of the best appointments in the whole pregnancy. You can watch them do things like suck their thumb. Some offices offer 4D imaging. It's really cool, but often there is an extra fee, or you have to go to a different location. Have fun and take someone with you, just to share the occasion (if your husband can't go). This is the time it will "really" hit him that there is a baby in there. What a wonderful bonding time for both of you!

BREATHE! lol If it happens to be twins (or more) contact me and I will put you in contact with your local twins club. I am president of the Monroe County Mothers of Multiples and I have 5 yr old triplets. I have been in my group since I was 4 months pregnant with my trio and it is a good idea to get involved when you are pregnant. If you want to check out our club site it is www.mcmom.org and my email is ____@____.com luck! :)
