A High Back Booster That Has a Comfy Seat? or Do They All Suck?

I've been looking at high-back booster seats for my 4 year old. Every one that I've looked at, the base seat is hard as a rock with only a thin little piece of cushion inbetween their butt and the hard plastic seat. Has anyone found a high-back booster out there that actually has a comfy seat? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I didn't realize how important it is to have a 5-point harness for as long as possible! Got the Britax Frontier 85, and it's nice and cushy!

We have the "Compass" brand.
Look on Amazon. And per reviews.
A couple of my friends have this booster too.
My kids say its comfortable.

Or we also have the Britax "Parkway."
Also look on Amazon.

We had the Britax Frontier and our daughter did like it. We just switched over to a backless booster, however, and in researching "comfortable" boosters, came upon the brand CLEK. They've won several awards. Bonus: back removes from booster when the time is right for your child. Con: not a 5 pt harness. We bought the Clek backless and our daughter loves it. The seat has much more padding than the average booster for sure.

I would not put a 4-year-old in a booster seat. Wait until age 6 (maybe 5 depending on the kid). A good harnessed seat ought to be comfy. The comfy boosters are generally high end and $100-$200 plus and you can get them online. Stores often carry not so comfy stuff. At least all the Targets, Babies R Us, etc. I have seen. Clek boosters don't often provide enough leg support, be careful.
And, putting foam under a seat modifies in it ways that have not been tested and change the way the belt falls on the child, so please don't use anything that does not come with the seat, for their safety.

I agree with you. My kids have long outgrown the booster seat, but I felt the same way. We traveled extensively by car when they were young and I couldn't imagine sitting in it for extended periods of time!

So I took what I call an "egg crate" foam piece (bought one for a twin size bed) and cut out two pieces for each booster seat. Then I tucked them both under the cover and voila, comfy tush for my kids.

I don't feel like this solution compromised the safety of the seat and my kids were much happier!

LOVE my Graco Nautilus. It functions as a 5 point restraint car seat up to 65 lbs and as either a high back or low back booster after that. We are just switching my 7-1/2 year old son to the high back booster function this weekend. Comfy seat and safety - plus not too expensive.

My son (6) and a couple of his friends all have the Graco High Back Turbo Booster seat. They all think it's comfortable and never complain about the seat at all.

My son only rides in his booster when he's in a friend or grandparents' car. In my car, he is always in a five point harness. We have the Britax Frontier and it's great. When he outgrows the harness, it converts to a high or low back booster.

Why are you moving your 4 year old now? If it's for the car he's in on a daily basis, I think you should stick with a five point harness for at least a couple more years. If it's like my son, where it's for a sometimes car, then go with the Graco.

Try having your kid sit in it. I had a Graco booster in my car for DD's friend yesterday and it didn't seem to be too uncomfortable. It's not going to be like sitting on the actual seat, though.

ETA: that site, albeebaby.com, is where we got our seats for DD. I'm very happy with our orders from them.

Walmart & Target seem to run sales on them here and there. I think we got mine for $135.00

After my daughter complained about one, I went to the store and tested a bunch of them. I bought the one with the cushiest seat. I don't remember what it was.

We also have a Graco brand convertible seat for both of our kids and they have never complained about comfort. However, Graco (and many other sources) advises being in a 5 point harness until 65 pounds. You should also check with state laws. Some states now require 5 point harnesses up to a certain age, weight, or height. I suggest looking for a seat that can convert from a 5 point harness to a high back booster.
