Hello Mamapedia,

My daughter loves to read and will ask to go to the library very often. I would like to recommend some books to her about leadership. Do you have any recommendation of fiction or non fiction?

She is 13 in the 8th grade. leadership in all areas, she loves to read so the more info the better TIA!

Although getting along with others can be a challenge at times for her.

What can I do next?

First thing that popped in my head was 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens. I know I had to read it at some point (either 8th or 9th grade, don't really remember) and it had some good stuff in it. I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but it'd be a place to start!

I really liked the 5 dysfunctions of a Team (Patrick Lencioni). It's written for business, but I immediately also saw the correlation to personal life.

I would highly suggests the Marcus Buckingham (from the GALLUP organization) duo....... FIRST, Break all the Rules and then NOW, Discover your Strengths. The 2nd book - NOW, Discover your Strengths has a quiz at the end that will provide her top 10 innate strengths and how to use them to her advantage.

I also love the books that are smaller and written for a quick read:
FISH (Stephen Lundin)
Who Moved My Cheese (Spencer Johnson)
Gung Ho, Raving Fans and Whale Done (all by Ken Blanchard)

I would suggest finding a biography of a woman in leadership that she admires and let her read that.

Leadership is such a broad term, it's hard to know exactly what you're looking for.
Is she interested in student government, or leading a school club?
I would imagine biographies about successful women and girls would be interesting, or fiction about great female leaders and warriors.
Your best bet is to ask the librarian. This is EXACTLY what they are trained to do, help you find just the right books!
Also, if she sometimes has challenges getting along with others you might want to think about stories of collaboration, friendship and teamwork.

Can you be more specific? How old is she? Leadership for women in particular or getting along with people or leadership in general?

Queen Bees and Wanna Bees for middle school age girls helps them understand mean girls and how they get to be leaders and how to be a leader for good.

I always like Colin Powell's It Worked For Me for the first chapter on basic leadership......

Need more info.
