A Good Place to Donate..

I am looking for a place to donate complete bedding sets that would benefit a womens shelter or for transitional housing. I have a full nursery set that is a neutral Looney Tunes theme and would go great for either a boy or a girl. As well as complete, gently used queen size bed-in-bag. I would love to see them go someplace that would directly serve a group in need rather than just dropping it off at the Goodwill. Does anyone know of a good outreach program that accepts these items?

What can I do next?

Eastside domestic violence may be another option depending where you are:

If you are anywhere near the Lake City area in Seattle- the Mennonite church there does a great job feeding and participating in housing programs that help homeless and marginalized people. Last winter ( SOOOO awful in Seattle) they opened their church and organized places for people to sleep safely out of the cold -- other churches help -- big time- but the Mennonite church started the process in Lake City. Tent City 3 ( or Tent City 1 --- # 2 was bulldozed by a previous mayor) is another place that needs warm clothes and bedding--there are people in those programs that are in their 80s - sle
eping in tents and patroling the grounds of whatever church allows them to stay --- our own little congregation has had them 3 times - and we are safer with them THERE than when they go ---. Another great place is called '''The Baby Corner''' in the Bellevue area --if you can't find a phone # for them--- call Sorenson Early Childhood Center in the Northshore District and ask for Shelley Fields or Mary Springer -- they'll tell you how to reach the Baby Corner - which has low and no-cost supplies for families with babies.

Blessings,
J. ((( I used to work at Sorenson before being 62 made it a good idea to retire--that's at job of much joy and a pretty fair amount of sweat :-)))) -- sure do miss it)))

I don't know where you are at...I lived through Cathlic Comminity Center when I was pregnant with my first son. It was on Church property for single mothers that were pregnant or had young children. Maybe you could look up CCS and see if they have a donation area. I know that the house I lived in has been closed, but they also have one in the Bellevue area.
As someone who received a LOT of donations with my first pregnancy I can tell you that I was SO appreciative. It made being single, scared, and a new mother less scary since I didn't have to worry about clothes and bedding.
God bless, L.

Hi J. -- you probably have received many answers by now. I work at an agency that helps support refugee families as they face the big transition of resettling in this area. We are often looking for bedding (and mattresses, pillows & other basic household goods) for their first apartments here in America.
We have offices in the Kent & Seattle (International District) areas. See our web-site: www.wr-seattle.org or contact our donation line ____@____.com for more information.

Many thanks for thinking outside your own household!

Vision House in Renton. they have apartments for single mothers trying to get back on their feet. Provide counseling and daycare for the moms and families. they work to get the women to a place to succeed on their own. they are a great organization. not sure if they except donations though. Would expect they do.
