our daughter had a flat spot on the right side of her head when she was an infant because we put her to sleep on her back and she would always turn her head in one direction, so the other side didn't flatten out the same way. Anyway, the doctor referred us to a plastic surgeon who kept monitoring it. She told us we didn't have to get our daughter a "helmet" because it was possible to fix the problem by encouraging our daughter to sleep on her left side. We used towels to prop her in that direction and as time went by and she was able to move around more, her head adjusted to be normal. She's 2 years old now and we're glad that we took the gradual approach. It's good to get a doctor to monitor though.

Hi F., I believe the flat spot on the back of baby's head, is due to them being slept on their backs, Check with the doctor, it's always good to have reasurance and peace of mind. J.

My son had a flat spot on the back of his head because his neck muscles were too tight. I would mention it to the Dr. and they might refer you to a specialist. The specialist had us do some excercises with my son. When he was about 6 months we started the process of fitting him for a helmet because the flat spot was not getting any better and it was causing his head to form in ways it shouldn't be. He wore the helmet for a little over six months. His head is now fine and looks great. For my son it was nothing serious but there were things we needed to take care of to help him have a "normal" life.

My son had one too, and we went to a specialist and he have us some exercises and also recommend we allow our son to sleep on his belly. We did both and about 6 weeks later it was gone. I have all the exercises I'll be more than happy to email the to you. Just let me know. I'd also try more tummy time and when sleeping position his head to the left and then alternate to the right. Less time in his back helps a lot.

I have two boys and both had REALLY flat spots for the first 10 months to a year. They were so bad that they both were referred to pediatric neurosurgeons and had xrays taken. Obviously they were both fine . The point is that it is normal for babies to have flat spots of varying degrees and if your pediatrician says it is ok then trust in that.
