A 4 Year Old at "The Dark Knight"?

So I just went to see "The Dark Knight" tonight, which was awesome by the way- and there was a 4 year old in the row in front of us! First of all, I strongly disagree with the PG-13 rating the movie got. It should DEFINITELY have been rated R. But, to me, that is no excuse for a mom to take her little kid to the sequel to "Batman Begins". It also was way too intense for a PG-13 rating. Am I the only mom who feels this way? I felt absolutely sick when I saw the child who's voice I had heard at various times during the movie, and realized just how tiny a child had viewed this twisted film. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the film- and as an adult WOULD recommend it to other adults. I am not just some fanatic completely opposed to violence in movies. But come on, a 4 year old? And there were lots of 7-9 year olds in the theatre too. This movie was not just filled with Adam West "Bam", "Pow" cheesy action sequences. It dealt with some heavy issues! I will not let my children watch it until they are at LEAST 15. Maybe that seems ridiculous, but I definitely rate it R myself and I didn't watch any R rated movies till about that age. I'd love to hear that I'm not alone in this!

What can I do next?

I TOTALLY agree with you and for the parents who "thought" it would be innocent film should get up and walk out with their child, I dont care if you paid for it. While I am furious it only got a PG-13 rating and at some point parents have to be responsible enough to view these films first. Stop waiting for the government to do things for you, wake up and take responsibility for your family. We gripe as adults how our society is being desensitized, yet dont want the responsibility of saying "no" to our kids or saying "no" to ourselves because we have kids and dont have a sitter . I I am probally speaking to the quior here but unless we want to live in a communist country we have to make "good" choices for ourselves and stop waiting on the government to rule rather or not we should let our children watch something. Ok, I will get off my soap box.

Seems to me that you are all over reacting a bit. The important thing is to sit your children down & make sure they are very clear about what is real and what is make believe. My 12 year old has already seen it and of course loved it. My husband & I fully intend to take our 6 year old son this weekend. He is a very intelligent child who has no problem distinguishing real vs. make believe. Please lets not blame violent movies or music for your kids bad behavior

I soooooo agree with you. Many parents don't think about the effect of what their little ones see and hear. ~C.~

Oh no!! My nearly 10 year old son is upset b/c we said no!! We were at Wanted a couple weeks ago and there was a 2 year old there. I do not go to adult movies with children!! I rarely see adult movies anyway, and then we don't normally see rated R movies at all.... a 4 year old totally absorbed the violence of that movie.

Huh? I have a 4 year old, & I wouldn't have done that! Even though I'm dying to see that movie...

Well, since some parents aren't smart enough then I would assume that it's up to the theater to not sell the ticket to them or escort them out of the theater.

i know that my almost 11 yr old boy isn't going anywhere near this movie! somebody i know took her young kids to the drive in while this was playing, saying "oh well, they'll be asleep by the second feature." that was ignorant!
