My 9 moth old just got over the rotavirus and was hospitalized for 5 days. He now refuses to drink at all. He won't take a bottle or cup at all. He hasn't had a bottle for over a week. He will eat soilids and baby food so I have been feeding him by spoon. Any help or if you have been through this would be great,

Thanks

try getting him to take sips of liquid from a spoon. he may still have a sore throat which makes swallowing painful. Also, try natural fruit popsicles with no sugar added. That migh help. They have frozen pedialyte sticks. That is another option.

Hmm. I don't know how to get him to drink from the bottle or cup... but maybe to get some formula into him, you could straw-feed him. (Plug one end of a straw, then let the suction go when it's in his mouth...)

If he'll take any liquid from a spoon that's worth a shot. See if he can learn to drink from a straw. When my girls were little like that, I would mix a bit of formula (since I was unable to pump breastmilk) into their cereal. I also offered bottles/cups at room temp instead of warm or extremely cold if I suspected ear or throat pain.
