Iron supplements taste nasty! My twins were on it as well and I would have to literally put them on their back and squirt the liquid in the back of their cheek like the other poster suggested but then I would blow really quick on their face. I heard once when you do that it automatically creates a response for them to swallow-it seemed to always work but maybe they were just swallowing it too-who knows! LOL! It could be an old wives tale for all I know.......

I used to put the iron drops into Motts Healthy Harvest Blueberry Applesauce for my daughter and mix well. It helped mask the flavor and she was able to increase her iron. Try some different foods that she likes. Good Luck.

have you tries putting it in her juice? My son wouldn't take his in anything but juice. If not, you may have to lay her down and squirt it in the back of the cheek, where it can go down your throat w/o much getting on her tounge- I have to do this sometimes w/meds and then have their drink of choice handy for right after and praise them for doing a good job taking there medicine/vitamins ect.

Hope this helps,
L.

I used to have to hold my son down to take these too. Then my doctor wanted him to be on probiotic powder as well, which tastes sweet. After about a week of giving him the nasty iron supplements first, then the sweet probiotic powder, he learned that if he endured the iron he got the sweet. You could try something similar with a food/sip of something your daughter likes. "You have to take your vitamins and then you will get a sip of juice" -- that kind of thing. Seriously it was only a matter of days before my son was taking the vitamins with absolutely no argument.

Our 10 month old son has to take the liquid Enfamil Multivitamin (nasty brown liquid) and the iron drops. I just mix them up in his cereal and add some fruit. He never notices. Our DR said not to mix with the milk - because it will make it taste funny and might stain the teeth.

I feel your pain...those liquid vitamins smell & taste disgusting! Can't blame her for wanting to spit them out. My son is also on liquid vitamins, and we mix one dropper full with a full cup of yo-baby yogurt. He hasn't noticed it yet!

My twins drink their vitamins. The brand is Isotonix and they take the entire children's might-a-mins spectrum line. The kids think that it taste like fruit punch. My favorite part about these vitamins are that they are isotonic which means about 95% of their nutrients are immediately absorbed. The pills they used to take like all pills on the market are only 30% absorbable. If you are interested go investigate them on this site: www.marketamerica.om/lkvision and search children's health. Good Luck!!!

Give her more iron rich foods like raisins chopped small, red meat and so may things you can research online to provide more iron in her diet. Sometimes children test low in iron but they are really not. They have congenital conditions such as Betathalasemia or others. If she won't take them there is a reason why. They probably give her constipation or tummy ache.

M.,
The Shakleebaby supplements don't taste as bad and in my opinion they are much better. If you are interested let me know.

Baby vitamins, even the 'fruit flavored' kind, are super gross!! Have you smelled it? Have you TASTED it?! HORRIBLE! The ONLY way I could ever get my kids to take vitamins as babies was to mix with with a cup of 1/2 juice, 1/2 water... and let them sip on it throughout the day. That was the only way they'd ever (eventually) get the full dosage... gradually. There were some days they wouldn't finish it no matter how hard I tried to get them to take it, but some is better than none! Best wishes!

A Pharmacy can flavor it for a few dollars. It will mask the taste some.

I'm not an advocate for juice at all. Our kids didn't get ANY till after they were 2 years old.........

But orange juice masks awful tasting things! I used it when I was taking an herbal (Female Correction) that was terrible. I put it in a small glass of orange juice and you couldn't even taste it!

dairy products makes people anemic http://www.drmcdougall.com/med_anemia.html
keep her off dairy, feed her nuts, seeds, lentils, green veggies (all can be blended as her food) and watch her iron levels rise. Are you nursing? If so, follow the same suggestions mentioned above too.

Try putting it in a jar of bananas or a fruit she really likes, it worked with my son when he had to take meds.
