my son did that too for a while, he is 3 1/2 now and I don't know how long it lasted but it is a phase, new discovery and all that.
Have fun.
Has anyone had any experience with a little one picking their teeth with their finger nails? He has two bottom teeth which he picks at, its loud, and no upper teeth yet. He chews on EVERYTHING so Im thinking it's either a bad teething habit or possibly a nervous tick? Any thoughts are helpful, thank you!

My guess would be he's just discovered a fun noice. My boys practiced every new noise they discovered. It got really annoying to me, but I would just try to tune it out. Before you know it, they're on to another new discovery. I wouldn't sweat it!
My daughter, after she got her top and bottom teeth, would grind them together! The noise was like nails on a chalkboard to us! She wouls chew on everything and even would sometimes bite onto someone's arm, it didn't last very long. I was told that it's a stage kids go through. They like to experiment with different sensations. You could always run it by your pediatrician if he continues.
You might want to try getting some teething rings/toys with various textures. My daughter LOVED the soft squeeky toys because she could cram them into her mouth.
Good luck to you! I know how unpleasant it can be!
My son does this too! He will be 1 next week, but has been doing this same thing for months now. For the longest time the only 2 teeth he had were the bottom 2. And he used to just pick at them with his finger nail and chew on everything like crazy. Right now he has about 4 teeth coming thru at the same time. I wouldn't worry. I think it's just a new fascination.
