I have an 8 yr old daughter who had pubic hair down there and has for about a yr well her recently she has started developing breast. Along with that she has started having meltdowns and being so moody. I have started her adhd meds here recently because she has some issues. I know the last medicine they gave her made her have meltdowns all the time. This med she has been on for a couple of months with no major problems until recently. I was wondering if it was the medicine or the onset of puberty. I have talked to the dr about it. I don't want her to suffer in school because of her problems. But I also want to be able to live in my house with her. She has a very low selfasteem and has speech problems. She also has adhd to the point where we have to fight with her to even do anything school related at home. But she throughly enjoys going to school. She doesn't do horrible in school. Please help me.

What can I do next?

Peel the layers mom. ADHD is going to give you self esteem issues. Imagine when you cannot control your mind and yet everyone is telling you that it is all you. I have ADHD, twenty levels of hell as I child I can tell you!

Please for the love of god and your child google the meds!! I let my daughter take something that had I googled it I never would have allowed it. Almost had permanent brain damage but we caught it and she is fine.

Some meds are perfect others are not. The great thing is there are so many meds you will find the right one.

My two granddaughters both started their periods at 10, so puberty beginning at 8 seems normal in this day and age.

I suggest you talk to her doctor and see if maybe her meds are conflicting with hormones. She may need to change meds.

I also suggest counseling for both of you. Talking all of it out with a counselor will help her to understand why she needs to do homework and will help you to understand what her blocks are.

Martial Arts would help her to build her self esteem. Many teachers and psychologists say that martial arts help with ADD -- ADHD and other behavioral problems and some learning disabilities such as dyslexia.

Obviously I don't know anything about your dd, but kids who carry more weight usually go through puberty earlier. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, so it triggers earlier periods, development, etc.

The average age of puberty and periods was 16 at the turn of the century, now the average is 11 for girls to get their periods. It's theorized that the reason is primarily that kids are much heavier than they were many years ago. The other reason is because of all the chemicals in the environment that mimic estrogen.

Hi, Love:

Check the medication to see if it will cause early onset of puberty.
The fighting has to be addressed. I see there is a label placed on your child already. Why is that?
Just want to know.

The best thing you can do is to talk to your pediatrician about everything you've mentioned. S/he may refer you to an endocrinologist about the puberty issue.
Good luck.
