Ladies, you all have some wonderful advice to give. I hope one of you can help me out. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and I feel hungry all the time. I feel like I have heartburn 24/7 and my stomach feels empty after 30 minutes of having a meal. I think I might be having acid reflux but I'm not sure because I've never had it before. I don't know if to try tums or what. I feel like a big fat piggy because I am eating often just to soothe my stomach for a bit. I forgot to mention drinks gross me out. I force myself to drink water because it just sounds yuck! and I use to love to drink water. If I drink OJ I pay for it later and milk seems to help but I can't drink that all day long. Thanks Ladies

What can I do next?

Hi K.! I know how you feel--I was there too! Tums are fine to take when you're pregnant, and I was popping them like candy until my dr. put me on a prescription drug for reflux (I forget the name now). But Tums are actually good for you when you're pregnant, since they're a calcium supplement, too. And I concur that, even though you don't feel hungry, try to eat a little bit at frequent intervals and never let your stomach get empty--that will make you feel much worse! I kept a box of crackers in my desk at work and would just nibble constantly all day. Finally, you might want to check out the book "The Morning Sickness Companion"--it offers a lot of advice, some of which might help you, but most importantly it reminded me that I wasn't alone or crazy in all this--LOTS of women feel this way when they're pregnant! Hang in there, it's all worth it in the end!

I would talk to your dr. about it. You definitely don't want to get dehydrated either. With my pg's eating dry food like crackers or cheerios helped w/ the nausea. The key for me was to eat before I got hungry. Definitely talk to your dr. though. Congratulations on your pregnancy & I hope you feel better soon.

You may want to discuss this with your doctor. If you are on a pre-natal, you may want to try some other pre-natals. I found some strange side effects on some during my second pregnancy. Reflux included.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you start feeling better soon!

Hi K., try taking zantac and tums are fine too. I know it's hard to drink when you're nauseous, but Ginger Ale helps me and sucking on peppermints. I definintely know the feeling of feeling empty just after you ate, that's acid, try eating crackers or cheerios and someone said. Maybe goldfish, something dry. If it is reflux, don't lie down for a while after you eat, drink ANYTHING and sleep on your left side. I hope you feel better soon. And congratulations!

Oh, K.- I SO sympathize with you! I am right there with you- I am 10 weeks pregnant and feeling miserable. My doctor put me on Zantac twice a day and that is helping with the heartburn/acid reflux feeling. I am also taking Zofran three times a day for the nausea- maybe those are things you can discuss with your doctor that might help some. They have definitely given me some relief. I find if I "eat my way through", I feel better- even though the thought of food and drink completely grosses me out, if I can keep my stomach from getting completely empty, I do a lot better.

Good luck to you! I am counting down the days until the second trimester in hopes that some of these symptoms will fade away.

God bless,
K.
