I believe that stretch marks are largely determined by genetics and can come from either side of the family- not just the mother's side. Here's an article about it I found: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/70122.php
OK, so I'm wondering if I've (luckily) dodged a bullet here.....I'm currently 8 months pregnant and have yet to get any stretch marks. I will also say I got lucky with my 1st born and never got stretch marks then either. Have I just been lucky or should I be prepared for them to come in the last month???
I've never been overweight, only "fluffy" and thinking maybe this might be why. Also, I've not really gained too much during this pregnancy or my last and am hoping that maybe that helped. Plus, this baby is predicted to be about 7 lbs and my 1st born was 5 lbs 10 oz, so he was small. Any ideas moms??

You are lucky. I got stretch marks on my belly, my thighs and on my boobs. My husband was great with rubbing the Body butter on my skin to help with the itching. Some people are more prone to them than others.
I went most of my pregnancy without them as well, but in the end my belly was so tight and my DD kept kicking (actually pushing out with her foot for long periods of time) in the same place and so I got them in that area (about the size of a tennis ball).
I got more the second time around. I carried my 2nd DD very low and all out front (first was in my rib cage mostly). It made a huge difference in how tired I got, strech marks and such. I gained 10 lbs. less the second time and my daughter was a pound lighter. So honestly there don't seem to be rules. :)
Keep moisturizing and massaging the skin to keep it as flexible as a tight drum can be (haha), and whatever happens happens. My stretch marks are not very obvious, especially when I lose the extra padding, so don't freak out even if they come.
i never got stretch marks either so yeah!
as an OB nurse I can tell you that it's totally genetic. Talk to your mom, sisters, see if they have them. If not, you probably won't. You've already had 1, so odds are that you're ok. There really is nothing you can do to prevent them...no matter what the products claim.
congrats to you! :)

Hi,
I have had three children and did not get stretch marks on my stomach at all. I started at 125 lbs and gained 32 lbs with my first. He was born weighing 7 lbs 6 oz. My other two kids I gained about the same amount of weight but they were born just a little smaller. Now it's almost 27 years later, over 200 lbs and still no stretch marks and I have a LOT of belly fat! I tend to think you won't have any marks with this pregnancy either. Hugs to you and congratulations on your two bundles of joy!
I didnt get my first stretch mark until 2 wks til my son was born i though i missed out on that part and boy was i wrong
You guys are very lucky, I remember when I was expecting my first one (I was 20 back then). I use to love my belly and always saw my tummy from the TOP, until one day by the end of the pregnancy, I was looking my belly with a mirrow and decide to see the black line that you get. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh so horrible descovery, strech marks on the bottom of my belly, I have no idea when I got them but I do remember srceaming to my mom to do something, lol.
Ohh well, I guess at least if my daughter one day tells me that she didn't ask to born I could say I didn't ask for stretch marks either! Lol.
i had my first baby nine months ago. i gained all my weght in my belly and got lucky with having no stretch marks. i was induced and had my baby two days before my due date. she was close to nine pounds. i'm sure that if you haven't gotten them yet you most likely won't. good luck! :)
I have had two children and am stretch mark free!! Not sure why, but maybe genetics, and I got pretty huge both times too, although with small babies. Keep yourself moisturized everyday, and just be happy about it!!
Lucky for you!! I didn't get any stretch marks with two pregnancies. My mom doesn't have them either (3 pregnancies). I have heard that it can partly be a genetic thing. My midwife said to just keep the skin moisturized during your pregnancy. I always used baby lotion, non of the special creams that are available. Good luck and God Bless during your last month!!
I didn't get stretch marks in my pregnancies either (have 3 kids). Some people are lucky in that they have good elasticity in their skin , I also used moisturiser every day on my tummy from the time I found out I was pregnant.
Lucky you Karin H. I was 125 and gained about 30 lbs and my baby was 9lbs. I have millions of stretch marks. No way I'm ever wearing a bikini again. My Dr at the time said some people are more prone to having them and they start from the inside out..?
I am fluffy like you and used lots of lotions, etc. I passed my due date with both kids and in those last couple of weeks ended up with some stretch marks. They were fairly light and have since disappeared entirely. Hopefully your story turns out similarly. Keep it moisturized--it is elasticity in your skin that allows for stretching and the less elastic your skin the darker the marks I think. Good luck!
No worries :) I had twins, granted they came at 30 weeks, but not one stretch mark! I don't even have the "extra skin"...not sure how all this happened but my mom didn't get stretch marks with me either (I'm an only). I used Arbonne Baby Oil (it's a "dry oil", not like J & J which is slick and...ick) to keep my skin hydrated. That is the ONLY thing that would penetrate my skin which became sooooo dry no matter how much water I drank.
I kinda feel like I missed something by not having stretch marks but I have two healthy two year olds and am happy for it :)
Enjoy the ride, worry about you and your baby, not the marks!!
Xo
I had my baby at 39 and don't have a single stretch mark. My son 2as 7 lbs. 2 oz. My mom never got them either, even after 3 kids. I'm thinking it might be hereditary.
I didnt get a single stretch mark either. I tend to gain and lose 10-15 pounds pretty frequently, so I think that might have helped, and I also didn't gain a whole lot. Only about 25 lbs. I delivered 2 1/2 weeks early, so I think that might have helped too, because I know a bunch of moms who say they got them at the end. But if you didnt the first time around and you haven't so far, you will probably be one of the lucky ones. Some people are more prone to them than others. I hope I get lucky the next time around too! Good luck!
