My 8 1/2 month old son just recently started acting scared of balls (any kind). He has never been hit with one and there is no obvious reason for this behavior. Has anyone had this issue... is it just a normal phase as he gains independence?
Thank you!

Hi,
Just don't push them on him and he will get over it. My son did this at 7 months old with the vacuum and it only lasted about a month. Now, he loves the vacuum! Children are all about phases and you just have to ride them out. Definately nothing to worry about.

Hello,
My daughter did the very same thing right around 8 months. What we did was buy several of the small blow up balls and left them around the house...not near her basket of toys or in her room, just in corners or hallways. All of a sudden one day at Gymboree, she craweled over to one and started playing with it. It's strange how fears come and go. Good luck,
Cat

I can't tell you if it is normal or not, but your question made me giggle...you see, for some strange reason, my daughter too was afraid of balls around that age! Terrified, would scream and run away to the nearest adult! Cried even if in the same room with one! My poor dog had to lose his ball toys for awhile! Anyhow, shes 18 months now, and somewhere along the way, lost the fear, and now has a huge pink ball that she loves to play with. So, my thoughts are that it'll go away, just bide your time!

I saw a young child screaming in terror over a clown. My own daughter used to scream from hair in the tub. Who knows... just ignore the fear and don't push balls on him. Now my daughter has no memory of being completely freaked about about a couple of stands of hair. Go figure. And when I say freaked, I'm talking screaming in terror. I would just go in and grab the hair away. Eventually it will go away.

ROFL! Wow, I just love BB's, because no matter what, when you think you are the only one in the whole world that has a problem, there is ALWAYS someone else just like you! :)
The best advice is, dont worry about it it will go away. Secondly, what I did, (because it was my first kid, a boy, and how could a boy possibly grow up not liking balls??????)
I drew a smiley face on one with a sharpie....ta-da...thats all it took.
Good luck! (and watch him be a pro athlete when he grows up!)

I have never heard of that, but they do go through many phases, why worry, he is a boy I am sure he will enjoy balls before you know it!
